I have a T68 on AT&T service, and the rates for data are terrible -- At BEST $12.95/month gets you 2MB, and then they charge you for each k past that! So, I would like to find a way to use my dialup internet service with my Bluetooth-enabled iPAQ PDA.
I have found walkthroughs for getting an iPAQ online with a T68 via GPRS, but due to the aforementioned costs I don't want to do that.
The T68 spec sheet says that it has a "modem," but does that just refer to the GPRS data ability, or does it mean an old-fashioned analog modem?
Thanks for the help!

uh just set the t68 to dial up to your isp number (with pass and login) instead of using the #99*1# or whatever....

You mean a new GSM connection, under Connect/Data Comm?
Whoa... that was easy. I love this phone. I didn't know that was possible, I thought I could only do GPRS data connections.
I get my Bluetooth PDA tomorrow, I can hardly wait to try this! If it works out I'll have to update my cell plan for sure, I'm on the absolute cheapest one I can get -- US$20 for 60 minutes and that's IT. I never use my phone, but I will all the time if I can use its minutes to get online.

setting up the data account was fine and it works because the phone dials however it will not connect and returns a " no response" error every time.
i've heard many things.. saying that AT&T does not currently support HS/CSD or they are blocking it somehow.. anyways.. if anybody has any ideas.. let me know!!
im also on AT&T gsm/gprs in Philly .. thanks!

Yeah, u can dial your usual isp, but then u cant use the modem at 56k, only 9600 i think... GPRS is way better.

Besides GPRS, dial-up only data access is possible with Ericsson phones since R520m... High speed dial up is also available through HSCSD (high speed circuit switched data) T68i is HSCSD capable (along with R520m and T39m)

i dunno if your country already have this technology... there are a couple of wireless internet provider in japan like airH. for pdas, they hay a CF type I and type II attachment that lets you connect to the internet wirelessly. they provide a network through out the tokyo area (like a cellphone provider, lots of cellsites) so you can connect to the internet anywhere. in the philiippines and japan, both have wireless lan coffeshops. you can have you coffee and surf the internet with you very own mobiles (pda, laptops, tablets...). they will lend you a PCMCIA / CF card to connect to their network.
hope it helped...

when i try to use my Palm dailing out on T68i (Canada Rogers AT&T), it says "Error: no carrier"
so that means i 'm not able to use my phone as a modem?

Here's the poop. I talked to the AT&T wireless network rep and they said their GSM towers arent set up for circuit switch data. That means you get a "no carrier" error because the phone doesn't know it's getting a data carrier signal and not a voice signal. AT&T claims they just haven't set up the GSM tower to receive data through dial up, but more likely they set it up so we're forced to use their gprs AT&T wireless internet service.
