Just been reading this:
================================================
NEW Version ! Sony 128MB Memory Stick DUO MagicGate MSH-128A , Original from Japan !!

5 Times Faster than MSG-128A (Transfer rate is 100Mbps while the old versoin just 19.6Mbps), Suitable for all Sony Digital Image and Music Products and Sony Ericsson P800 & New P900 PDA Mobile !!
================================================

Is this pukka, true and above board (I know nothing about these memory sticks)

i'm not sure, but i think that it means that the DUO is faster than the original big memory stick...

Yeah... One is a DUO the other isn't. So this comparison is only valuable if you intend to use your DUO stick (w/ adapter) on a non-DUO size restricted device.

Cheers for clearing this up.
So all duo's are actually the "So Called" Faster style anyway

No. There is in fact a new MSH-M128 "high speed" Magic Gate Memory Stick Duo. It is purple whereas the old (slow) one is white, and it costs a good bit more. (In London, the best price you can currently get on the fast one is about £75; the slow one can easily be had for £45.)

The new version supports parallel writes, allowing data to be written to the card much faster than the old version. However, this fast write ability depends on support in the device, and there is no indication that the P900 supports it. In other words, in a P900 this new version probably acts exactly like the old version. Might as well save your money and get the old one.

@Pereg-

If you read the listing that Paul-RS listed the manfuc. # "MSG-128A' displayed here clearly points to a 'normal' 128mb stick not a DUO stick. With that said, it technically isn't comparing apples to apples. Furthermore, I own and have tested various 128mb DUO sticks and they ALL work with the P900. I have 14 128mb DUOs and one of them happens to have been one of the earlier production ones straight from Japan. However, Lexar and Sandisk jumped on the DUO stick bandwagon and I really don't notice any difference between them or any of my DUOs at all.

Actually, it is comparing apples to apples.

It is important to be clear about something: underneath the surface, the Memory Stick and the Memory Stick Duo are absolutely identical. The only difference is that in the Duo, the same electronics are stuck into a smaller package. (This does not apply to the Memory Stick Pro, which is a different unit with different electronics.) This is why you can take a Memory Stick Duo and stick it into the adaptor and use it as a regular full-size Memory Stick: they're really the same thing. All the adaptor does is make the smaller card physically fit the larger slot.

The MSG-128A (old, slow, full-size Magic Gate) is identical to the MSG-M128A (old, slow, Magic Gate Duo) in every respect except for the physical package. So comparing the MSH-M128A (new, fast Magic Gate Duo) to the MSG-128A is just as valid as comparing the MSH-M128A to the MSG-M128A: the MSH-128 is considerably faster than both.

And this all misses the point. The MSH-M128A exists, it is new, it is[b] faster, it [b]is more expensive and it does work in the phone if you want to blow the extra cash. It is certainly not the case that all Duos are the new, faster style.

Amazon quite happily sold me a 128mb duo, in the newer purple colour being the newer high speed version...

It works in the P900 perfectly well, as it should, but I have not noticed any speed increase over the 32mb, lighter blue coloured, card that accompanied the phone... neither on the P900 nor in a card reader... so it will not increase performance as stated on the packaging since the additional speed increase does not seem to be supported...

To reiterate, the darker purple/blue duo works on my P900, and it was at about the cheapest price available... I paid around £44 for it from Amazon, just before Christmas...

I've just been looking at things like this:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2976967507&category=18870

And wondering two things:

1: in the UK will you be hit by customs/vat man when this parcel arrives ?

2: Is this item (which sounds impressive in the advert above) actually any faster than the ones sold on Amazon.co.uk

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0000CD7II/ref=sr_aps_electronics_1_1/202-8979245-8803809

With postage they are about the same price.

1: You might get lucky, but in general Her Majesty will charge VAT and duties on anything that cost more than £18. A capital girl, that Lizzie. You may also be required to pay the Post Office an extortionate fee for the "work" they do clearing the package through customs.

2: The item on eBay and the item on Amazon are the same unit. This is the new faster Memory Stick Duo that is capable of much higher speeds, but the P900 does not have the capability to take advantage of this technology so in the phone it will be exactly like the old, slow stick.
