Will a P900 bought in Hong Kong work here in the UK???
I hear they are all sold unlocked, and how much can I expect to pay?

Yes, mobiles brought in HK will work here in the UK. I have brought various mobiles from HK in the past for use in the UK.

last time I checked the prices for a P900 in HK it was around HK$5500

5,500 Hong Kong Dollar = 389.081 British Pound

Remember to shop around to see if you can get better prices.

heh heh that is true but from my personal experience that depends on how much stuff you are carrying. If you got a trolley full of boxes, suitcases etc then yes you run a high risk of getting stopped and searched by customs.

What I usually do is ditch the boxes and mail over the receipt, manuals and software.

I also found that if you take the last 2 flights back from HK to the UK you arrive at 4:30am/5:30am and there is usually noone at customs around that time (it feels kinda spooky walking through customs with no officers there)

But thats only from my personal experiences.

If you do get stopped and searched by customs you could always say you got the phone in the UK and took it to HK to use perhaps???

like I said from my personal experiences (I been to HK about 10 times already) its been fine for me bringing back stuff. Just try not to be too obvious that you are carrying stuff that surpass what highstreet chains sell

Remember nothing is guaranteed, whatever you bring back you do so at your own risk.

actually I was saying tha tbased on an assumption that it would be posted to him. If he is going there and collecting then he's unlikely to be caught on the way back in because, as you say, he can just say he bought it in UK. Best to get rid of the boxes in that case (or post them empty back to UK)

heh heh yeah I find that if you do the courier route you will def. get hit for tax!
But if you are buying a P900 you want it to ship via courier for the insurance in case it gets "lost"

You could get the company to state on the customs declaration form that the product inside is being sent back after servicing or something like that.

I am not too sure how it works but whenever I buy import games from the USA I always ask the company I buy from if they can mark down the value of the goods on the customs declaration so I avoid the tax and they are more than happy to do it.

Are you thinking of getting a phone from HK via online or are you actually going to go to HK and get it?

If you are planning on going I do know that there is a special deal (I think its book before end of jan and fly during feb/mar) atm for £299 return flight to HK!!!!!!!!! Best move fast to secure a ticket because that price is Cheap!! (Most of the Chinatown travel agents around the UK are doing this deal)

When I was over there during around Sept 2003 they already had the Samsung E700 available to buy.
Generally HK seem to get new mobiles a few months earlier than the UK, I remember when I first picked up my T68i in March 2002, it wasn't launched in the UK until around August 2002.

In general mobiles in HK will work in the UK because HK use the stay GSM band as UK. I think some people got Japanese phones working in HK, but I Am not very sure about this, it maybe worth looking to see if this is true because some of the Japanese mobiles are light years ahead of what we got.

Electronic goods in HK do tend to be newer and generally more cheaper (Strong £ vs the HK$) and some months ahead of the stuff we get here in the UK.

I have not been back to HK since september so I cannot tell you what new phones are available now (sorry)
But whatever you want that is available in the UK, In most cases it will already be available in HK at a cheaper price.

What price roughly for a P800?

Also will those sold in HK be 'Chinese versions' which have less internal memory than normal ones (9MB rather than 12MB) and is there also a 'Chinese' P900 with the same disadvantage?

P800 I really don't know but I would imagine it will be cheaper.
Many stores sell both Chinese and English models.
Just make sure to check it yourself when you go buy.
Also I found that the Chinese versions are slightly more expensive than the English ones because HK ppl prefer to use Chinese.
So you have a price advantage already.
I hope that helps
