The hype for Sony's PSP console has already moved into overdrive. The device Sony claims will be the '21st Century Walkman' will play music, video and 3D games and will have 8MB of internal memory, a 4.5-inch screen, infrared and USB connections, plus Wi-Fi for multiplayer gaming. It will have the same controls as the already very successful PlayStation and it's claimed it will be every bit as powerful as the PS2.

I know in Japan they have a add on that you can clip to the gameboy to make it a phone. So I reckon they will have something similar on this or include a phone built in!

I can post a pic, directly on to this. But I am not sure as to what tags I need to include.

Here is a pic

PSP TO HIT EUROPE IN NOVEMBER

The mind-wobblingly powerful portable will arrive here before Christmas 2004, according to Sony Europe President

14:26 Anyone who chanced upon the specs for Sony's handheld PSP console, unveiled at last year's E3 show, will have been rightly stunned. Here was a handheld whose price, we were promised, would compare favourably with the GBA, despite offering much improved visuals, sound, and even DVD quality playback. Yowzers.
Now Sony Europe President Chris Deering has announced the console will appear in Europe in November 2004. "There's no official date for its unveiling" Deering said in a recent interview, "but it has been announced that the target date for its global launch is November 2004".

Deering also commented that "the features of music playing (the MP3) and Memory Stick feature, along with the capacity to handle all kinds of video content in addition to the great games, and maybe even more features that involve GPRS modems, location-based (GPS type) software, messaging and other features make it a very handy thing to have and something which will be very fashionable to be seen with."

We're not expecting a whole lot more of info on the PSP to emerge until E3 2004, when hopefully we'll be able to sample the microscopic marvels for ourselves. Of course, if we find out more before then we'll let you know.

As buckle said, this is a pure Sony device that's trying to take a big chunk of the portable gaming market away from Nintendo's GBA. It's not a SonyEricsson device, and is not designed to be a direct competitor for the N-Gage at all.

@MrBlueJack:

Actually the bottom picture was released by Sony themselves and is most definately NOT a fake. It is, however, not necessarily the final design:

I've heard it won't come out till Christmas 2004 for Japan so us guys in the UK will have to wait until 2005 for one.

I'm just a little bit concerned about the battery life as the the screen is huge and it needs to power a motor to spin the disc around.

Not necessarily... read the article below from trade mag MCV which says:

"The PSP will be launched across the world in the final quarter of 2004, and takes its first major public bow at the Tokyo Game Show in the autumn."

Sony are (for the first time ever) aiming for a simultaneous global release, so us UK folks should get it the same time as everyone else (it'll just be 50% more expensive as usual!)
