> Help needed from P900 Orange users!
Bookmark topic
Hi,
I bought a P900 for a friend in the US.
To do this I did it the cheapest way possible by buying getting on Orange and getting it unlocked.
Before I sent it it worked fine here with an Orange and a Vodaphone sim.
5 days later it arrives in the US and every time it is switched on the Orange logo appears and then the phone switches off.
Which doesn't sound good!
Can someone with a Orange P900 tell me the following...
Has anyone experienced this problem and have a clue how to solve it?
If you turn on your P900 with no Sim in what happens?
If you turn you phone on with another non orange sim on a locked Orange phone what happens?
If I send the phone back to Orange for a replacement, what bits will they ask for? If I can just get the phone sent back from the US then it is going to be a lot cheaper than the whole box. I think when they swapped an SPV for me that they just wanted the phone, no battery, sim or extras.
Thanks
Marc

My unlocked Orange P900 works fine on O2 and Vodafone but have not tried T-mobile. You sure the problem is not to do with a faulty battery? You should let the battery charge for 14hrs the first time. If the problem was with the phone not being unlocked you would get a sim error not the phone switching off. You also ask your friend to attaempt an online firmware upgrade - this may restore the firmware if the firmware is at fault - but I suggest you call SE UK support on 08705 237237.

Hi Jah,
The phone worked fine here for a week before it's trip to the US.
Even if the power cord is plugged in the phone switches on, shows the Orange screen, then switches off.
So I doubt it is a battery issue.
If you turn on with no SIm what happens?
Cheers

With no SIm you get an error message - asking you to insert the SIM.
The more I think about this the more it sounds like a firmware issue. Reminds of the old problem with the P800's when the c: drive was full and therefore the phone could not perform some basic initiations - which cannot happen with the P900 though.

But it worked fine here, surely if it was firmware it wouldn't have worked?
And as it is an Orange phone it can't be flashed online.
Looks like it's got to be sent back to me. Just what I need more expensive postage costs.
Cheers

I believe an unlocked Orange phone can be flashed but only to the approved Orange firmware - I have done this myself. I am sure it does flash the phone as after the update I have 5MB of SE freebies (rubbish) on my phone. As I said, ask the SE Service Centre first as you may be able to repair remotely. Good luck mate.

Have you tried removing the battery? and reinserting it?
Was the phone well protected on the flight to the States ie may it have been damaged in transit?

Just about everything we can think of has been tried.
The parcel was packed very well. It was in the original Orange box (with extra bubble wrap) around the phone, and then placed in another box with bublee wrap around that.
Considering the box came to me (and survived) via citylink in the Orange box and a plastic bag over it, then I feel it should have been ok.
The box is showing no signs of damage.

I didn't think they were supposed to mess up tech bits.
How did you save your P800?
Cheers
