Hi guys. I have had my p800 since it came out. I noticed, starting today that after 10 seconds of any call, there is a "beep" that sounds and a little yellow triangle with exclamation mark in it comes up. I have no clue what it is as I have never messed with the settings. Can anyone tell me what this is and how I can remove it?

Thanks

welcome to Esato.

This is the P800 telling you that it has detected some problem and wants you to reset the phone by pressing the power button for 10 seconds.

There are many, many threads on this so please take a look through these search results on the subject for more info

Acutally this is not the same error as the one where the phone tells u to hold down the power button for 10-seconds. I had this same error that this person is having and found only one post on another forum concerning it. This is a new error where DURING a phone converstation you will hear a beep about 5-10 secs into the call. Then a TINY yellow triangle with exclamation point in it appears next to the battery indicator on the top status bar. The phone stays functional. Basically what the phone is telling you is that it cannot encrypt your call so that it is private. When I spoke to SE they told me anyone with a scanner could listen to your conversation if the encryption is not working. It apparently has something to do with your provider and your phone working together to keep your calls private. UNFORTUNATELY, there is nothing you can do to fix it yourself because it is a hardware issue. This is a problem that SE must fix. I had to send my P800 back to them to get it fixed and apparently they had to replace some of the hardware inside the phone to do it.

I am on T-mobile as well in florida. SE says it had something to do with the hardware in the phone not working with the tower so it could be provider dependent as well.

that's exactly what happens, 10 second into the call exactly the little triangle with the exclamation point appears. this only started happening today, so i would assume TMO is doing something, it's unlikely that something hardware wise broke, since the phone is otherwise fine, and it's been fine since i got it. hopefully this will go away either as TMO fixes whatever they are working on, on when i move to a different cell once i leave my house, since today i've only seen this once i got home.

Interesting though that this icon does not seem to be documented in the P800 or P900 manuals although it is mentioned in the T610, Z600, t68i etc etc manuals and usually appears when the network themselves either don't support ciphering or have ciphering turned off, such as in India.

It didn't occur to me that this was was the original poster was describing as it is similar sounding to the triangle of death which is quite common on P800, so my mistake.

Unfortunately it isn't anything that TMO is doing. It really is the phone. When I called SE to find out what was being done to my phone, I was told they were waiting for a part. When I asked what exactly was wrong with it, I was told the phone had a hardware failure that kept it from communicating properly with the tower. So I hate to tell you, but it won't suddenly fix itself. Your going to have to send it back to SE for service.

And yes, it does just suddenly stop working. I made a call, worked fine, hung up and made another call and bam there it was.

And believe it or not, it took the tech at SE about 30 min. to even track down the error. Apparently he had to go back through all of the white papers and finaly found a referrence to it, and the referrence just said "tell customer to send phone for service and replace "this" part".

Same problem here with me (NYC, TMO) as of Jan 11 2004.

Damn, maybe I should hope for a P900 as the replacement for this overpriced brick.

Well, today I suddenly can't connect to GPRS through TMO. I haven't had the ciphering error yet with this phone. I did talk to the Data Tech support at TMO with is different than general customer service. From what the guy told me they are having problems all over the US indifferent confined area where either voice or data was going in and out. I am in Miami and he said this is one of the areas. Apparently it is affecting different phones different ways. So maybe the ciphering problem is part of their tower issues.

No TMO does provide encryption. My P800 worked fine for 8 months, then all of a sudden I got the error. AFter I got the phone back from SE, I had no problems. And I have talked to higher levels of tech support at TMO and yes they do provide cyphering. Like I said it appears to be the phone as SE did recognize that a hardware replacement was necessary with my phone. But I am hoping that the error that has been occuring with these guys since it happens to be both P800 and P900 all a few days apart and they are all on TMO and I know TMO is having an issue that is will fix itself.
