I just changed my Nokia 6610 to T610. In most cases this is a great phone but in some places it simply sucks:( I have following situation:
Lets say I have 40 contacts. I divided it to some groups, lets say family group has 10 members, friends have 10 members and so on. I divided these contacts in my mind because Nokia had such thing as caller groups. Now I want to recognize when someone calls from each group. I've found no such thing as caller groups in T610 and no ability to assign separate ringtone for each group. I've found only ability to assign ringtone to contact. I tried to assign ringtones in this way but found that I can assign ringtones only for 10 contacts. What a shame:( Is it normal situation in these days? I think that this is not normal to have phone with one ringtone for all contacts:( This makes T610 suck:( Or is there some workaround to overcome this limit? Thanks.

You're going to base your opinion of a phone solely on a feature like caller groups? What about a non-crippled IR? What about Bluetooth? A 65,000 color screen? An aluminum shell? 32-voice polyphony? All of these (and more) are advantages over the pathetic 6610.

Have you bothered to update the phone's firmware?? Maybe the solution you are looking for is there.

I don't think you can assign a ring tone to a group. A ring is meant for a single contact, this being the main purpose. You also have the default ring and the pix. That enough customisation for me and it works too. Do you think you can live with it? I can;-) just assign the special rings to the special ppl in ur life!they can't be too many anyway This message was posted from a T610

And i really would find that useless. Tha`s why u have individual ringtones. If i`d have more than 10 individual rings, i`d forget the melodies and to which ppli assigned them to

I don't understand why this is a big issue to be honest, I mean just look at your phone when it rings??? and it tells you who is ringing. Instead of trying to memorise 50 different ringtones for each person. Just my opinion.

i totally disagree with some statements made here, and i fully agree with the one that started the topic.

i like this phone very much, and all of it's features!
but it truelly sucks that one can not indeed assign tones to groups, and restriction to 10 unique ringtones to 10 contacts is just too silly, one of you said how to remember a ringtone for a contact.
well if in the first place had enabled the use for recorded AMR sound to be used as ringtone, you can simply use whatever suits you and your remembrance memory, to ring for a specific contact.. in other words you could record their name and have it sound out of the speaker as a ringtone, and not be limited to 10 people only.

this just sucks about this phone, and the fact that we are limited to using the tones as made by for the incoming sms, very nice now that half the freagging city is having this phone and same sms sounds are ringing everywhere

other then this it's a great phone, but i agree with the initial poster they shouldn't have limited us on this.

just my 2cnts

Answer is to all posters here:) I don't say that the phone is bad or something like that. It is good and have most of required features. I bought it because of these features and I thought that it will be the best phone. But the following bad features make me want Nokia 6230 instead T610:

1. Unability to assign ringtones to a caller groups. It would be so nice to assign contacts to lets say five groups, assign ringtone for each of them and to be able to recognize who calls me. I think that this is natural wish.
2. Phone can hold so small ammount of sms:( Someone can say that it is enought for him to have lets say 30 sms, but for me this is verry small ammount:( Nokia can hold twice as SE
3. Silly annual events management in the calendar. Remember how easy is to set recurrency interval for a such event?:) And don't mention that I can do this with outlook. Compare this feature with nokia and you will see how it differs,,,

I want to say that advice to connect the phone to computer is not an option here.
So I'll think that I'll live with this phone for this year and I'll change this phone to Nokia 6230 which now has all features SE has and my required features.

Btw, my phone is with the latest firmware. And as for screen with so many colors, yes it is great, but not TFT and not so good when there comes sunlight:)
