data accounts are for managing the gprs/dial up service settings. Wap proviles are for mnaging specific wap service settings

They r diff'rent in order to allow phone to do diff'rent internet connections(internet and wap). They also have diff'rent APNs(access point number) provided by ur operator so the phone can differentiate between connections. In my case, the 'internet APN' allows me to connect my pc to regular internet, to use email with attachments from the phone,etc. The wap APN allows me to use wap connection and also to use xhtml version browser thus paying less(i could connect thru internet apn but it'd b more expensive)
