> CAR-100 discharging itself?
Bookmark topic
I've only had it for about 2 days now, but every time i go to use it after say, 4 hours of not using it, I HAVE to charge it again to get it to switch on.
For example, last night at 11pm I fully charged it. Played for about 5 minutes and switched it off.
Just came back to it now at 8:20pm the next day, and it wouldn't switch on. I've had to put it on charge again...
Is this normal or do I have a duff battery?

thats normal! maybe it's bacause the phone use a capacitor instead of a battery... that explains the knittering sound when the phone is on...
Many of the small rc cars I've seen uses a capacitor... a capacitor drains very fast, and a capacitor can charge again and again without getting worse like a battery...

It's definately a battery. A NiMH battery with 160mAh to be precise.
I don't know if you ever researched into the Tomy Bit Char-G RC cars, but the CAR-100 is basically identical (albeit with some more fangled complicated electronics), which means it's HIGHLY moddable as well.
You can get some VERY fast motors to go in there. (The CAR-100 is rated a 1.0...you can get 4.0 motors)
You can replace the gearing system, suspension, tires, wheels, batteries and can even get the lights to work!
Have a look around, it's quite impressive!

How long will it last in continuous use? i.e. how long will it drive round for?
Also won't upgrading the motor make it use battery faster?

I've not given it a proper test yet, after say 5 mins of driving in circles the novelty wears off. It's a great toy, but only in small morsels at a time..
and of course a faster motor will drain the battery quicker.
The 4.0 motor is used pretty much only for drag races, as it's supposedly impossible to steer them at such speed, and the battery is dead after, just because of the sheer power drain.
Also, the motor gets so hot it requires a heatsink that is included with it
Pretty cool though.
