> P800 Email "Problem copying messages: Already exists" Please HELP!
Bookmark topic
I very much hope that someone can help me with this problem.
I have an email messaging account set up in my P800 which has been working perfectly for 9 months or so, but a few days ago it started refusing to download new messages. I get a message box with the following title
"Problem copying messages"
and the text
"Already exists"
I have three other email messaging accounts set up which are still working properly. SMS is working fine too.
I have checked the settings and they are (still) correct, and indeed still work if I try to access my email from another computer.
I have tried deleting the messaging account (and all the messages in it locally on the P800, but they still exist on the remote POP server).
However when I try to create the account again (even with a new name) and resync, I get the same error message again.
How did it remember the problem?
I don't know what else I can do, short of resetting the entire P800, which I really do not want to do -- it would take me too long to set it up again after nearly a year of continual use.
Please please help!
Hans

A suggestion you can try,
1 Create a sub-folder under the Inbox (from Oultlook, Web Access or what ever you are using).
2 Move all the mail items from Inbox to the sub-folder.
3 Access the mail account again from you P800 pop client.
4 If it does work, a further attempt can be possible.

Thank you very much wapt! I think you have solved my problem!
I did what you suggested :
1. Emptied my Inbox on the remote POP server (saving them in another folder).
2. On my P800 I did a resync (Get&Send), expecting that it would leave me with an empty client Inbox.
Guess what?! I found that there were now two old messages in the client Inbox. Presumably those messages were in some funny permissions state.
I deleted them in Messages in the usual way and retried. Messages crashed but when I restarted it everything worked fine -- I got a clean empty Inbox and can receive messages again.
Thanks again wapt!
Can anyone explain what happened? Funny file permissions after an earlier crash or comms failure ?

You could try the eZiTap predictive text program. It's better and faster than T9 in my opinion.
You can download a free trial or pay for it at

I am running Outlook Express and do not sync any messages with my p800.
I get the same problem when I try to get me email on the move. It comes up eg. getting message 1 of 8 then it says, Problem copying messages already exists. What on earth does this mean and why is this happening??? I have tried deleting mail account and GPRS account and re-entering details but the same thing occurs.
Help please
TIA

I did empty my inbox by using my home PC and I did a "get and send" on my p800 and it was able to check for new messages and found none but this has happened for the past week. This means that if I get any email while out and about I cannot receive it on my p800 phone as it doesn't download it and comes up with this weird "Problem copying messages error".
While removing the messages from the server seems to fix things it makes having the email facilities on the p800 useless.
What is going on?
M
PS. I've had the p800 for 3 years and this is the first time I've had this problem.
