SD is the successor and was designed based on the MMC design and the main difference is SD is much faster

SD is cheaper too! also much more common and easier to get a hold of so definitely better

SD is better but in my country MMC is more commercial (cheap, available). Ive got one 64MMC in my digicam and I cant record a high detail movie cause its slow
