I have a T600 which had the firmware upgraded a month ago to 47R6A - which didn't really fix anything from the original firmware (oh well!)

Anyway, I have put in a new orange sim, but in doing so, alot of the menu items have disappeared. In the messages menu, I only have an Inbox and Options. Sent Items, Send New, Unsent, etc are missing.

That means I can't send SMS! However, in the shortcut menus, I am able to add these items to my shortcuts...

I have tried the 13 sec trick, but I haven't managed to make it work on this after several attempts - Can anyone confirm if this works? I don't think it will, because the phone resets after about 5 seconds, so after 13, nothing else happens...

Any ideas / solutions very welcome!

Thank you for the swift reply - but sim updates only work on orange branded phones...

When I read the text message, instead of saying "Sim Update" it has goobledegook.

It's a conundrum...

All i can think of is:

check that your connectivity profiles are set up
try doing just a master reset instead of 13 sec trick
try another sim card!
If all fails.....contact SE or take ur phone in to a service centre CW

Thanks for your help, Craig.

I don't know what a connectivity profile is, but I have systematically been through all the menus, and not found it.
I have tried several master resets too (isn't that the 1st part of the trick, anyway?)
With my original sim, I have the menus. It's only with my new orange sim.

I would prefer not to go a service center as the nearest one, well, isn't very near!

how "new" is this new sim? is it data enabled?

it sounds like the sim is the problem - i dont buy that only works on orange branded phone stuf!
have you tried another orange sim?

It's a brand new sim. I ordered a new phone on contract from orange, but I really *love* my T600 which isn't available anywhere. Anyway, I was planning on giving the new phone to my sister, and using the sim in my beloved T600.

New = 7 days old.

It seems like its a service providers fault........ive had problems like this but not with my T610......I would diagnose the problem with the sim card....i would definatly give orange a ring ( it wont hurt to do so) and push at them....tell them that you cant send txt messages until it burns in their brains....they should be able to find a solution

I am so frustrated at reading about problems on here that match the ones I have, but no answers, so here is the solution:

Point number 1: Orange Sim updates can be more than 1 txt message. You should not interrupt (i.e. click read) until the last message has come through. Mine came at about 1 every 10 seconds. I had to have 3 sim updates as the first two did not download properly (something about sending data in packets, and once you click read, they stop sending the packets)

Point number 2: Non-Orange phones cannot read their sim updates. However, orange phones can. So, put your sim into your regular orange phone. Get all the updates, register the sim, activate international roaming, etc.

Then, and ONLY THEN, can you put your sim into another phone (i.e. my non orange branded T600). Then all is fine.
