> How much do you pay for your cellular service?
Bookmark topic
I couldn't figure out whether to make this post a new one or to
continue here. Well, considering that the other topic is about something that the FCC is supposed to be doing, I figured that I'd post this subject as a new topic.
I did some calculations on the
other thread, and found that even not having unlimited nights and weekends does seem pretty good. This is making me wonder whether I really need unlimited nights and weekends, or whether I should switch to Cingular.
I'm wondering a few things, though. I noticed that the guy with Cingular service mentioned about his minutes expiring after a 12 month period. How exactly does this work?
Does this mean that
(1.) Your 12 month period starts when you first start service? So, if you started with Cingular on January 2004, then on January 2005 all of your Rollover minutes started?
Or
(2.) Your start your service on January 2004 and Rollover 100 minutes. These minutes expire on January 2005. You then Rollover 34 minutes from February 2004 to March 2004. These minutes expire on February 2005. Then you Rollover 57 minutes from March 2004 to April 2004. These minutes expire in March 2005.
Basically I'm wondering the policy on how long the minutes last.
Oh, and what about T-Mobile? And how about these free unlimited WAP offers that people are talking about?
How many text messages do you get, by the way? It seems that AT&T is the worst with text messages, cause I think that I saw T-Mobile gave like 1000 text messages for only $5.99?!?!? What about incoming messages?
Oh, by the way, I'm trying to find plans within $30. I'm a college student, and money is kind of hard. I'd like to stay under $100. This may seem far from it, but my wife also is on my account. So, we have two $30 plans. We each get 300 Anytime minutes and Unlimited Night and Weekend minutes. I then pay $9.99 for 300 text messages and my wife has 5.99 for only 100 text messages. I have the "Roadside Assistance" for around $2.99, which is kind of self-explanatory.
I think that's about it. That's about $80. The only problem is that with other service plans, most of the special offers start at $40 plans, even though they do offer $30 plans. For example, Cingular has a $30 plan, but does not offer Rollover with this plan. The $40 plan does have Rollover. Pease post as much help as you can!!!
I'd really like to change services, but I don't want to pay more, or lose money.
Thanks very much!!!
Ethan

hey how's it going? you remember me (the one with cingular.) ok, lemmie see if i can help. first i'll try to explain rollover: i think you got it actually but i'll try to explain it again in a dark, morbid way. lets just say that i start cingular with rollover today for the 39.99 nation plan. that gives me 500 min. if i use 250 this month (feb) then next month (march) i'll have 750. now, say i went into a coma and gave my wife strict instructions to keep paying my bill because i love my number so much and want to have it if and when i awaken. then miracuously (and coincidentally) i come to jan 2005. i'll have 5750 minutes. but i can't use it yet because my speech won't return for a month. so when it does feb 2005, i'd have 6000 minutes because i would loose the 250 rollover min from feb 2004 but get my regular 500 min for feb 2005.
about the whole "unlimited nights and weekends" thing: cingular, as well as other provirers call 5000 minutes unlimited because they know nobody can possibly talk that much-as you figured out in
this thread. tmob probably does the same thing, you just haven't noticed.
text messages are ¢10 per message if you don't pay the monthly cost.
so if you and your wife were to use cingular, you could get the $69.99 nation plan, a second line with familt talk for $9.99, which would give you guys 1000 min (with rollover) for the both of you to share. my parents do this and pay about $80 a month with no complaints yet. or, you can go for the superhome plan for 1200 min instead. i perfer nation because i travel to the east coast alot. that's about twice as many minutes for about the same you're paying now
about the internet: you can do what my friends do and pay nothing and just use your minutes. or, you can do what i do and pay a flat rate of $6.99 for unlimited access. i was connected a whole weekend once. i don't know the ins and outs with tmobs internet because i'm not accepting their cookies on my puter.
i think you should change but then again i'm rather biased. i've been with cingular since 98, when they were pacbell wireless.
