Extraction for wappers:
After two tough years, Sony Ericsson has reported its second consecutive quarter of profit. And to top it all off, the long-awaited 3G phone Z1010 will soon be released.
...snip...
The Swedish and international press have reported that Sony Ericsson cannot always meet demand. Some say the company has failed to get its hands on adequate supplies of components. Others claim that Sony Ericsson is poor at assessing demand, which causes it to order insufficient volumes. "It's correct that our industry right now is suffering from a lack of components," Wäreby says. "But a more important explanation to why we cannot always meet demand is that our short-term objective is profitability. This means more to us than large volumes. Going into larger volumes means taking a chance. We might not be able to sell all the phones we produce."
"For Sony Ericsson, the present situation is a matter of balancing volume and profitability. And let us not forget that during the fourth quarter of 2003 the market demand for mobile phones exceeded our own and others forecasts."
In essence, Wäreby says that Sony Ericsson is following a conscious strategy of manufacturing only as many phones as it knows it can sell. This strategy signifies that there could be shortages of certain popular models, such as the clamshell phone Z600. This is a phone that has been well received by consumers and the media.
"The Z600 has not been dimensioned for the mass market," Wäreby explains. "This was a conscious decision. It is our first clamshell phone outside Japan, and the good news is that it has been well received. Our volume product is the T610, for which we have planned greater volumes and mass marketing."

I would say good for some reasons:
- I dont want to go out there and my phone is the same with everybody else(of course as long as its a superb phone)
- With nokia, you don't feel special at all because everybody has one

I'd say it was a good thing, cus if a model dont sell too well they ar'nt gonna have to sell a load of phones at a loss, which is obviously their reason why they do this. Like the saying goes,'dont run before you can walk'! And SE are still young, but 'argueably' the best! :-)

i think that they could now produce atleast abit more phones, cause they know there phones are selling very good.
good for us that we'll get the best phones
bad for them, cause the more phones sold the more profit
