Hey guys,

I am considering buying an iPaq (probably the new 5550) with built in bluetooth. Does anyone here pair an iPaq with their P900? If so, what is your experience like - do you find it reliable and easy to use?

I've heard of some problems with BT on the P900, so am wondering if these also manifest themselves when pairing with the iPaq.

I hope to use BT for internet browsing on the iPaq, and perhaps for copying files back and forth too.

Thanks!

I recently changed my 5450 for the 4150 and if you don't want the finger print scanning I would recommend you do the same since, apart from the finger print scanning, you get everything the 5550 has in a much smaller package and the screen is only .2" smaller. The 4150 is also alot cheaper for some reason.

As for your question, it pairs perfectly well and I can dial out from the ipaq over GPRS as easily as I could on the 5450. The only thing I have noticed so far is that when I make an OBEX connection from the ipaq to the P900 to transfer files I am not seeing any folders like I do when I do the same from the ipaq to the T630. But I haven't spent any time figuring it out yet and hope to do that this weekend.

I am thinking of buying a IPAQ myself. Either the 4150 or the 5550. I need to be able to remote control (running a decent ssh client) Esato while I'm on the road, and the portable PC is left back home.
I find the low size and weight of the 4150 more attractive than the added finger print scanning and more memory found in the 5550. The price differences found on www.expansys.se is EUR 155 while the local Norwegian online shops has a EUR 48 difference.

I haven't decided yet..

I absolutely love the 4150 even though I had the 5450 and had upgraded it to windows mobile 2003 so in theory it was the same as the 5550. The 5450 was something that had to go in my jacket pocket or on my belt but the 4150 sits happily in my shirt pocket so for the size alone its great.

As I mentioned before it is identical in every way to the larger unit except for the finger print scanning which I found a novelty anyway and quite often unreliable (my wife managed to unlock the ipaq with her finger!)

Although I have had a play with the built in terminal services client that comes with pocket pc my experience is very limited in that area as I have had no need. I also tried a simple telnet tool too, but again just for the hell of it.

I agree that when I changed my 5450 to the 4150 the memory was much the same (64mb) and the 5550 has 128mb but with the price of SD cards being so cheap these days I prefer to use those. I already have a couple of 512mb and a 256mb.

Having been stopped a few times recently from watching videos on the P900 in flight mode on my weekly flights back and forth I decided this weekend to investigate movies on the iPAQ. I visit pocketpcthoughts regularly and recently they had an article on this topic so this weekend I gave it a try and that program is fantastic. Does it all in one piece of software for only US$24.95. So that may be another reason to get the iPAQ too.

The screen on the 4150 is the same resolution as the 5550 but it is actually .3" (.76cm) smaller diagonally however I really have not noticed that.

In my opinion I really don't know why HP continue with the 5000 series and it is now known that there is a 6000 series coming later in the year with Bluetooth/WiFi/GSM/GPRS and some speculation says it will be 4000 series size while others say it will 5000 series size.

In summary, I have not had any second thoughts about moving from the larger unit to the smaller unit and would recommend the 4150 to anyone and with the price difference buy yourself a 512mb SD card from ebay and still have some change left over!
