I'll give it a try - feel free to jump on me if I get it wrong.

Java -
* industry standard language with specific features for mobile devices.
* Open model - anyone can write and distribute java programs.
* Generic development - not just for games.

Mophun -
* designed primarily for gaming.
* proprietry language/environment designed specifically for mobile phones.
* Closed distribution model - cannot distribute free mophun games.

If I think of more I will edit this!

Yes, you can make applications in both languages. In Java, for example, we have Webviewer and Email Viewer. In Mophun, the applications are more spread out and more random, so I'm not exactly sure of a positive example that everyone would be familiar with.

Also, Java requires a sort of in between program to run its programs. If you notice, when you start a Java game, Java starts, then the game starts. However, Mophun is written in more of a C++ language, so it requires no buffer, resulting in faster speeds and more stability than Java.
