hi all,
i've created a poll in
http://www.clubsonyericsson.com/forum/index.php?board=4;action=display;threadid=536 because i'm interested in seeing what is your point of view regarding all this leaking industry we're being exposed to. you can either post there (no need to register) or here, but please leave your vote. thanks.
after all the the excitement since yesterday regarding the video showing two unreleased and unknown

models which were almost obviously future models for the gsm market, and after "contrarumors" said not only that this video was very old (which is strange since no one talked about the "new" phones before and it features the P900 which is two or three months old) but that the "new" phones were prototypes, turned down design ideas, or even actual models for the current japaneese market; i thought "what is the f* sense of all this?" "what is this video, why is it here, why does

finish a really cool commercial with 5 seconds of the back of an unknown model? what should be the sense of doing this if this model was only a refused design?" but more important, "if phone manufacturers let things like this happen (leaking, deliberate or not), THEY are the only one to blame about the rumour being spread by the community, and NOT the community".
let's see. IF manufacturers DON'T LIKE LEAKING and rumours and rumours spreading all over the net, then they aren't doing enough to prevent it. if they allow employees or partners deal with secret stuff (because it may be eventually their task to do), then either they don't warn them how important is to keep that information private, or in the case the information goes public, they don't penalize the "leaker" enough to prevent others to follow him/her.
IF leaking is part of the industry and (deliberate or not) the manufacturers can live with this, they must be aware that the mass can go crazy with even the most innocent rumour, and that dissapointment and even annoyance in the community is very likely to happen, especially when a rumour turns out to be just a rumour in the end (i.e. p900's 1.3mpixel camera). it is part of the leaking business. so if they make a video with two previously unseen phones (no matter if they are real or prototypes! they are there, starring in a super official video, and looking very commercial!) everybody knows thousands of people are going to talk about it, guessing lots of things. usually gets angry when this happens, and then if we are now again the case of the previous parragraph, they do less than enough to prevent things that make them angry. and by the way, they may not get angry with all the people, but with the sites that support the conversation. from clubsonyericsson.com to mobile-review.com; apparently the websites that have a space for leaked info and "pass" them on are the ones to blame but this is not the source of the problem. the source of the problem is in the very moment the information is leaked, and the responsability for that moment lays on the phone company.
no need to say that one thing is leaked info (which creates rumours) and other thing is rumours, because rumours can born without the help of any leaked info, and therefore rumours will always exist, even if the leaking business dissapears. there will be less and less harmful for companies, but there will be rumours.

do you not think the answer may be as simple as that? To
create the excitement, and make ppl want to hold off buying another phone till they've seen this one irl?
Think P900, think T610....... it's worked before hasn't it?

of course vlamm, but the p900 and t610 turned out to be real, versus many people saying that the two phones of the video are not real or are japaneese. that's my point. why release/leak that video with that commercial-looking phones as main stars if they aren't going to be released in the market where the video is targeted to.

I agree it could just be a corporate internal video . Either way its created excitement as vlamm said so weather its the next gsm phones or un marked japanese phones for a corparte vid its done its job

I agree with Vlammetje showing these phones months ahead of schedule may sway people from another manufacturer to wait for this particular phone to hit the streets
Look at the chaos when the P900 was released people were rioting in the streets little children were getting trampled on by people trying desperatly to get hold of the phone then came the next SE tactic make a shortage of stock all of a sudden children were being sold on the black market for this precious phone shops were being bombarded with phonecalls regarding availability and the internet was slowing down with people trying to find the phone on the internet
Theres nothng wrong with a bit of leaking its just a game

On the contrary my friend leaks are done to prevent rumors. if man did not have anything to base his rumor on, with his imagination rumors would be unlimited and WAY OFF so leaking provides a basis on which to make a rumor on. and if its correct, its not a rumor is it.

Have you read through the post refered to its full of rumours. Some may prove to be fact a lot wont . So how you can say leaks stop rumour. Most leaks are to create excitement and gather information no how people will react

a leak is not usually about specific information, but only a photo or video like the one of these days. this way a leaked photo of a phone leads to a discussion/rumour about how many megapixels it has. generally words are less believed than photos and videos.
