.mmf is the file extension for Yamaha's SMAF audio file format.
The way in which it works is very similar to the MIDI format except that with .mmf, it is possible to use sampled sounds such as voices and sound effects, since the samples are included within the file itself (midi can't do this).

mmf is a combination of midi and wav, also implemented in siemens phones.
Now if you want, there is a free tool to extract the midi track from the mmf

My son has a .mmf ringtone called 'Seven Seas' on his V800 which he got from a friends Sharp cellphone. When he plays the ringtone, the V800 vibrates in time to the music and the Photo light flashes too. The file doesn't work on my V640i.
Do all .mmf files do this? How can I get Midi or MP3 tunes to vibrate and flash (well, on phone with a flash anyway). Can I convert tunes from one type to another and add these other functions?

.mmf and .mld are used on all of DoCoMo's phones here in Japan...
They do not support .mp3/.wma as ringtones, and .mmf/.mld are rather poor sound quality!
