A couple of months ago (october/novemberish) there was a thread about how BT (British Telecom) were developing some hardware so that when a user went into their house, their mobile phone could connect to the landline in order to make calls (and so its cheaper). It was said that they would be trialling this with the SE P800, and that the hardware (and additional p800 software) would be available early Q1 2004, probably January.

Has anyone heard any updates about this? I tried to search the forum, but its such an obscure thing to search for I couldn't find any updates, or even the original thread any more.

Thanks!

Have you tried to get in touch with British Telecom about this? I have heard that they got this in denmark. When in the house your phone is just a normal phone and when you step outside it becomes a mobile. With the same sim and all. Don't know how that works though. So ask British Telecom.

This was rumoured to be in the pipeline, and I believe it was supposed to have something to do with the BT Mobile, BT's new mobile proposition. Not sure what happened but I can tell you that BT Mobile is garbage, which may be related to a lack of any further developments?

Don't think it will be around for a while as the concept has some far-reaching implications for the way mobile calls are billed and the future of fixed-line telecoms.
