hey there i was wondering if anyone can tell me how to unlock a T610 as i bought a O2 Sim card for it and i need it unlocked. If you can help me it will be much appreciated.

No. Updating the firmware simply solves problems found in previous firmwares, and occasionally introduces new features. The lock imposed on the phone by the network provider isnt affected by the update at all. The best thing to do (as suggested here) is to take your phone into your nearest official Sony Ericsson service centre (deails can be found in numerous posts on this forum dating back to the good ol T68 days , and on Sony Ericssons suport site) and having it done there. As you are going to a service centre, you may as well get a firmware upgrade as well, as that way you kill 2 birds with one stone
