I recently bought an AT&T T616. I got one of those unlocking kits from E-Bay, and successfully unlocked my phone. However, I am wondering if it is truly unlocked. I stuck a (expired) Cingular SIM card into the phone, but it said "No Access", then I stuck a (unactivated) SIM card into the phone, and it said "Inactive SIM". Why did it say two different things? Has anyone actually successfully unlocked their carrier locked cell and then successfully used another SIM card into it? When I check the SIM lock, all of the locks are unlocked. Any explanations for why the different messages?

an expired SIM card is blocked, meaning the network will not allow it access ("No access") to the network... a card which is not activated is not blocked, but it needs to be activated in order to gain access to the network.... don't really see the problem... use an activiated non-expired card and it will work fine

Cytech, I hope that you're right. That sounds logical, just that I haven't had a chance to test it with a "Non-AT&T" SIM card yet. The thing is, I've been bragging (sort of) so much to my friend that mine is unlocked, and basically singing the praises of unlocking your phone (He doesn't, cause he doesn't want his dad to mess with his phone).
Well, his brother wants to buy my old phone, and it's unlocked, and I'm just worried that I will suffer lots of embarrassment if the T-Mobile SIM card doesn't work in the unlocked phone (not only embarrassment, but also $80 on that unlocking kit).
MixiN, all of the locks are open.
Thanks!!!

It should be unlocked. Why don't you try the sim card of the buyer?

I will today. Basically, I was just asking, cause I'm kind of worried about being embarrassed. Come on guys, you all have to admit that you'd rather find out you're wrong beforehand, rather than during the situation, right? Thanks to everyone, though, you've made me more confident that this will work.

Just wanted to reply that the SIM card successfully worked. Gosh, I can't believe that I was so scared. Oh well, it works, which is good! When I turned the phone on, I saw the words "Welcome to Voicestream". Yeah!!! Thanks everyone.
