Hi all. I've been trying for weeks to get information out of o2 concerning what will be happening with o2 online customers when gprs will become chargeable. I've been given the runaround and have now finally got an answer off o2 about what will be happening in relation to o2 online customers having free WAP minutes, etc. Here's the email I received:
Dear Steven,
Thank you for your email.
GPRS has always been charged however, due to recent promotions we have on offer has previously given free use of GPRS.
As from the 1st March 2004 GPRS will become chargeable as all promotions will finish from this date.
Regarding your free WAP minutes the settings for these can be found on the following link:
http://www.o2.co.uk/productsservices/mobileinternet/setupwap/0,,131,00.html
The average full colour screen on O2 active is about 3-4Kb worth of data.
Using this link you need to select GSM settings and not O2 Active or GPRS.
If you wish to use O2 Active which is WAP over GPRS you can do so by using the above link selecting O2 Active settings and this will come out of your free 300 minutes allowance. Please note once you have used your free allowance then GPRS will be charged #2.35 per Megabyte [Mb]. There are approx 1024 Kb in 1 Mb, so this equates to about 0.2p per Kb.
The average full colour screen on O2 active is about 3-4Kb worth of data.
If you require any further assistance please reply to this email.
Kind regards,
Elizabeth Crank
O2 Customer Service.

this pargraph makes no sense surely the 300 minutes is for wap access via gsm dial up not gprs
as it says gprs is charged by the data transferred not by how many minutes its used
or am l wrong and you get 300 minutes unlimted data shifting each month no surely not

Yes thats exactly what I thought. Someone else said that they got an email saying us o2 online customers will be receiving 1mb free data transfer a month. I guess that sounds more realistic.

i sent o2 an email re this as i am on orange but was thinking about getting an online tariff.they said that the 300mins would be equated to a a mb total.orange did a similar thing when they offered they unlimited (but metered) wap you got 10mb or 500mins on dailup
from the email i got it implied that it was about 7-8 mb free before charges.
