Now, I've been using my p800 for nearly a year and my G4 1.4Ghz DP (with Jaguar 10.2. a little less (tho I've been a Mac addict since 1994, and I know them well).

I've been happily syncing all CONTACTS and CALENDAR events between the two using a D-Link DBT-120 bluetooth adaptor (as recommended by apple) very happily until recently...

I opened a .vcf address book file sent from a known source. It opened automatically into apple's Address Book, and guess what - it was the only entry; I normally have around 200 entries, but they had just disappeared. No problem I thought, I'll just sync with iSync and recover all contact info...

1 week later, my Address Book is still blank, and I can't for the life of me get the addresses to sync from my phone to the mac. It still syncs the CALENDAR with no problems, but the contacts do nothing.

It will either:
finish the sync, looking as if it has done it's job, but leaving the Address Book empty, or;

it displays the following error message:
"[your phone] is low on memory. Please clear some memory on [your phone]." (or something similar)

Using Virtual PC and the Sony Ericsson PC Suite P800 Software that comes with the phone, I've reset the phone completely, added nothing but the contacts, and tried once more - the same thing happened. There is plenty of memory left on the internal disk.

I've tried using another mac (Panther this time with the latest iSync installed (v1.3) to do the sync - same problem.

WTF is going on here? any ideas?

a million thanks in advance to anyone who can help...

mmkay - um, I have no-idea what happened, but let me see if I have an idea about where YOU are:

* The Mac has no more addresses
* The P800 all the names

I this is the case then:
* Just go to the P800
* Select the ALL folder
* Then under the CONTACTS menu select the SEND THIS FOLDER menu item

If you have alot of contacts, this can take a few seconds

* Send as Bluetooth to your Mac. It'll appear on your desktop
* Double-click and add that to your contacts!

By the way, you can backup your name database in iSync - I routinely make grandparent backups weekly, and especially before I try anything "fun".

If you're Address book appears empty, maybe it got corrupted. back up first, and try this...

Trash everything in:

~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/

Then it'll be like starting, completely afresh, now hopefully a Sync will bring your contacts form your fone, to your new Address book database!

Sounds logical, hope it works out, but plz, before doing anything, backup the data ...

Good luck.

Glad 2 hear of another Mac User in the forums!

Oh, just out of curiosity, when you pair your fone, with Address book, does it display incoming calls / txt's etc etc... My Panther system did this perfect with my Dad's 3650, but doesn't work @ all with my P900.

firstly - I've tried all suggestions here - problem still persists.

jtrascap - thanks for the tip on exporting as a .vcf file. This means i can at least use my contacts from my mac. BUT they still refuse to sync, even after deleting all bluetooth, isync and address book preferences (inc those Address Book bits in application support), and starting afresh.

HELP ME PLEASE....

Okay - have you done this:
* iSync - remove device by selecting it and then choosing, duh, REMOVE DEVICE from the menu
* SYSTEM PREFS - BLUETOOTH - remove the P800

and while you're at it, reboot the system. Might be voodoo, but I think sometimes it works.

Now, once rebooted, do this:
* Make the Mac discoverable and pair with the P800 from the phone, not the Mac. Once paired, select the Mac's profile on the phone and make sure it can connect without asking.
* Now, make the P800 discoverable too. Go to SYSTEM PREFS - BLUETOOTH - DEVICES and set up a new device. At least pair it with the first 2 boxes (I don't use the phone as a modem and so I don't select it).
* Now add the device to iSync. For the first time I let the phone be overridden by iSync

Have you done this, especially the part where you pair the phone with the mac first? This seems to sort out alot...

tried all that in many combinations, no joy....

I updated to the new iSync, and still had a problem.

Ultimately I solved it by extracting all my contacts from phone by sending "all" folder to G4 via bluetooth. Then I reset the phone using

up * down down * down

and then synced via address book. A long way round, but the only solution I could find.

Now all syncing works fine again.

the real pain was having to relink my contact photos on phone, reinstall favourite apps, and change "main" phone numbers to "mobile" in address book, because they weren't exporting to the phone with that label.....

anyway all back to normal again.....
and I now back up my address book databse whenever there is a change!

fingers crossed that it's all fixed...
