RealNetworks and Sony Ericsson to deliver RealAudio and RealVideo to mobile phones

RealNetworks®, Inc., the leading creator of digital media services and software, and Sony Ericsson today announced that Sony Ericsson has licensed RealNetworks technology and will incorporate the RealPlayer® including RealAudio® and RealVideo®, in addition to the 3GPP standards in multimedia capable Sony Ericsson phones. The two companies also announced that Sony Ericsson has joined the Helix™ Community.
Sony Ericsson is a market leader in developing mobile phones for GSM networks, the dominant technology for over 75 percent of the world’s mobile networks including Europe, North America, and parts of Asia.

Sony Ericsson will leverage the flexibility of RealNetworks’ Helix Community, (www.helixcommunity.org), and the Helix DNA™ Client to efficiently bring RealPlayer-enabled mobile handsets to market. The Helix Community is a collaborative effort among RealNetworks, independent developers, and leading companies to extend the Helix DNA platform, the first commercial-grade, multi-format platform for digital media creation, delivery and playback.
RealNetworks continues to expand its leadership position in the growing market for mobile audio and video products and services. With the addition of Sony Ericsson, the RealPlayer is now shipping or is scheduled to ship with phones manufactured by 5 of the top 6 mobile handset manufacturers in the world. The RealPlayer for mobile devices is available on Linux, Openwave Phone Tools v7, PalmOS, Series 60, Symbian and WinCE.
