everyone in the uk you can get you t68 upgraded software done at any carphonewarehouse service centre, (180 scattered across england)
i have just recived this email from them also it oes not matter if you have not bought your phone from the carphone warehouse,.
Dear Mr **********
Thank you for your email. Please accept my sincere apologies for the delay
in a response.
I understand that you require information on the new Ericsson T68i and the
upgrading to the new software.
We have received unconfirmed reports stating that all customers with the
Ericsson T68 will be able to have their software converted to the Ericsson
T68i from around the 13th May 2002. Please note this is not a confirmed
date, therefore it could possibly be a later date. This process can be
undertaken at any Carphone Warehouse Service Centre.
Once the conversion has been undertaken on an Ericsson T68 mobile phone, it
will not be possible to convert the software back at any time. Also T68
owners are currently downloading and installing PC software for the
T68/T68m. When converting the software to the capabilities of the T68i, this
pre-loaded software will need to be unistalled. Once the T68i conversion has
taken place, then you may install the T68i Synch Software.
Any phone numbers stored on the T68 will need to be copied to the SIM card
prior to having the software upgraded to the T68i. There will be no hardware
differences, the only differences will be in the design and colour. The
memory size and functionality will also remain the same.
Possible functions which may be gained through the conversion to the T68i
will be:
- Picture Album (My Pictures) with increased memory allocation for images.
- Sound Browser - (List of sounds stored in the phone i.i melodies and AMR
files)
- Picture CLI (Possible to associate a picture with a contact and display
the picture upon incoming call)
- Viewfinder - with Communicam MCA 20
- New Games
- Notes
- Screensaver
- New pre-loaded wallpapers
- New and more advanced melody composer
- Text formatted SMS (Possible to add bold and italic text)
- GPRS (p-channels)
- Animated GIF support
The information which will be lost through the conversion will be:
- Calendar notes
- High scores to games
- Own edited/downloaded background pictures
- Own edited/downloaded ring signals
- Own edited EMS pictures
- Own defined shortcuts in the menu phonebook
- Saved CBS (Cell Broadcast Messages)
- SyncML settings
- Tetris(will be replaced with another game)
- Voice memos
- Voice tags
I hope that this information has met with youre requirements. If you have
any further queries please do not hesitate to call our Customer Care Line on
0870 1680870.
Yours Sincerely
Dimple Thanki

So less than a week to go then, depending on how truthful the carphonewarehouse is being.
So does this mean we'll be able to upgrade in manchester at last then???

Hope so! Although when I went to the Carphonewarehouse in the Trafford Centre on monday they told me that I would have to contact the SE service centre if I wanted the update, nothing to do with them?

ive spoken to SE on numerous occasions over the last week or so,they have given me details on 4 different dealers/service centres in my area that they say will be able to do the "i" upgrade(one was the local CPW).
everyone of these dealers have told me that theyll have to send the handset to SE which will obviously take a while.has anyone else been given this sort of conflicting info or does anyone know of any centre in the midlands area that is going to do the upgrade on site?
