I have a new P800 with the latest firmware. The phone came direct from the dealer, I didn't have to flash it or anything.

I went to a party and was taking pictures with the digital camera. After I had taken the last picture, the phone suddenly froze on the camera and wouldn't accept any further input. I switched it off, and it refused to switch back on.

Since then I've tried removing the battery, putting it back in and starting the phone. I've also tried holding the power switch for 10 seconds and then trying to turn on the phone. The most I have been able ot get is the SE logo coming up, or asking whether I want to turn the phone on, Flightmode, or help. Trying to turn the phone on or put it in flight mode results in the phone freezing on the SE logo again. I've left it in that state for 3 hours hoping that it would recover. It has not.

Any ideas what happened, and how I can fix this problem?

Thanks for any help.

Amazing.

I just tried to switch the phone back on after leaving it in that frozen state with the SE logo on for about 3 hours, and switching SIM cards (I switched mine with one from an older phone so I wouldn't be without a cell) and it just said it had to reformat the internal memory. Took a few seconds and the phone is back now. Minus all the memory and everything else I stored in it.

My last backup was November 2003

Why the heck did this happen????

hmmm... not sure, im glad its back though, p800 is truely a masterpiece of technological engineering, i hope you enjoy your P800 as much as the rest of us.

however if the phone is still under warrenty you may wish to consider a firmware upgrade anyway just to get it running in tip top condition.

Your pictures did it. The P800 dies like you experienced if the internal (C:) drive is completely filled up. Always leave 1 MB free!

This is a *known* problem? How come I haven't read about this in any P800 reviews? To me this is a major flaw in the phone. I don't have to worry about taking 100 pictures on my digital camera if my memory can hold 100 pictures...why should I worry about taking 292 pictures with the camera on my phone if the phone says it can take 292 pictures?

There is no way that the phone's internal memory should become corrupted in this manner from simply storing pictures.

The phone should have simply inform me that memory was full, or reported 290 available pictures instead of 292.

I just think it's ridiculous if this is true, and should be noted in reviews or notes on the phone before people purchase.I don't see this anywhere in the manual.

My phone is also upgraded to the latest Firmware, so there is no software fix for what is in my mind an obvious glitch and glaring fault with the phone.

It greatly affects usability if I must manually monitor my phone's internal memory because I am afraid the phone will suddenly crash on me.

My P800 used to do that all the time when I was using Tracker 2. Its the phone attempting to get more memory by closing another application, and the applicationin question not wanting to close. The phone carries on regardless and the file system becomes corrupt. I had to let mine sit at the SE logo for about 4 hours before mine did anything, I was bricking it the first time it happened.

TOP TIP: Next time you use the camera, set the storage folder (top right) to a folder on the memory stick. It will remember this setting, and from there on in will store all photos on the stick - leaving your phone memory junk free.
