yeah I remember when I first got a P800 I tried doing the same to answer calls (like on some earlier phones) until I realised that doesn't do it!
never found a setting to make it do it either, and also not on the P900 now either

After having various clamshells with "active flip" over the past year (6xT720i (don't ask) and some others) i really miss that feature! also once i've answered a call the mic seems real quiet! ppl @ the other end can hardly hear me

Yeah, whats up with the mic coming across really quietly to the person on other end? And with not being able to speak with the flip open. Seems the only way to talk on p800 is using ur handsfree kit. Very silly!

Make sure that when holding the phone you are not covering the mic, the little hole on the bottom left hand side of the phone.
If you hold your phone when speaking with your left hand you will almost definetly be covering the mic.

I remember posting this very question back in my salad days.

After having the p900 for the past 3 or so months, it is only now that I am actually getting the hang of being able to pick the actual thing up without pressing something or other... so I can easily understand the problem of covering the mic when making a call!:0)
The phone is all but impossible to pass onto someone else without activating the internet, or camera or pressing something or other either...(and i won't deactivate these buttons as I do generally use them usefully, rather than accidentally:0)...
