I have my P900 now for about 4 months and have been trying to use all the functions regularly. It is evident that some useful features have been left out from previous models which is a wee bit annoying given that I have always owned an E/SE!

Gripes are as follows:

1. SE Backup software - READ ALL THE WORDS CAREFULLY!!! There is a part which says "create back up ON Phone memory / Mem Stick". I assumed that this saves an image of the backup on the phone - it doesnt..... what they actually meant to say was "create back up _OF_ phone memory / Mem stick"..... I tried to do a firmware upgrade on the phone and only ticked Mem Stick... the rest you can figure out!

2. Why oh WHY oh WHY cant i set an alarm with the flip closed? Its a real pain in the b*tt having to set a time alarm / reminder while you getting out of the car lugging a laptop bag and having to fiddle with a microscopic stylus!

3. How do I change the Apps shortcuts menu in flip closed? Can i do that? I would put the time / alarms shortcut right at the top

4. Dont know if anyone noticed this - but only the contacts that have a mobile number saved as the primary contact appear in the SMS "create new sms" option. I usually call all my contacts on land lines but if I need to txt someone I have to cut and paste phone numbers.

5. Why doesnt the email client have an option for "storing email on the server". When you delete an email that has been downloaded it automatically deletes the same mail off the mailserver!!!! Annoying!

6. Call list - how do I get the phone to list the NUMBER that I received the call from..... it just displays the name. Annoying if you have 2/3 mobile numbers or land lines saved for the same person. Why cant it alternate between the name and the number like in the T39 which I thought was a cool feature?

7. Why cant I access the complete APPs list with the flip closed? Agreed that most apps would need the full screen to display content, but I should be able to select some simple apps (like a pic viewer).

8. One major gripe for me is not being able to use the calculator in the flip closed function!??!? If anyone knows how please tell me.

9. How can i switch between open apps? Its annoying esp when you have to cut and paste a few fields from a contacts list and send as an SMS for example. i.e. open address book... select contact... edit contact.... select field.... copy.... open messaging.... select SMS.... New..... paste..... (now I need another number to be pasted)... open address book.... select contact.... etc etc

10. Can someone suggest a QUICK way of highlighting text using the stylus? It may sound blonde but I really havent figured it out and most of the times end up deleting digits and text! How do you select ONE WORD from a txt message to copy and paste somewhere else for example?

I am sure there are ways to address the above issues - if anyone knows any shortcuts please share them. All in all I am happy with the phones performance but small annoying things like the above make me think "why didnt they think of that!? when they can put a mirror under the camera lens! (which I have never used to date btw!)"

Sorry if I sound p*ssed off but its Monday morning and in the office!

Pity you weren't aware of all this before you bought it hey... you could have had something else given all these shortcomings...

You should remember though that nothing is perfect... no matter how much you have to pay for it...

Umm... as for your problems...

For number 6;

In flip closed mode, if you press ok, it will dial the nubmer, so you can see that... you can stop the call before it would ring on the other side, if your quick... in flip open mode, then you can view the numbers ok... not much of solution, granted, but probably the best you will get...

For numbers 7 and 8 combined...

The fact of the matter is that you can do very little with the flip closed at all... granted the camera and MP3 player are available, but these are not really useful, everyday kind of features, and are things I wouldn't mind opening the flip for since I use them that rarely (well perhaps the MP3 player is mildly useful, in that the flip can be closed and usic continues when you use it)... you are right, the calculator would be much more useful for some, at least... it seems that the more flashier pieces of kit have been included for when the flip is closed, and the more mundane, every phone can do it, sort of stuff has been left out... to the detriment of the phone of course...

It does not appear to me that the flip closed mode is limited in resources when operating in this way... indeed, as said, the camera, sound recorder and MP3 player can be used without problem, probably being 3 of the more demanding sort of apps... but its just an anomaly we will have to live with...

As for number 10;

well it can be done with the stylus, but it takes a bit of practice, which is just my advice, PRACTICE... it gets no more helpful than that I am afraid...

You know, I never realised how bad the phone was until I read all that... but never mind, it looks good all the same!...

Whilst it appears to be a little known fact, phones, like all other devices nowadays come with a manual of sorts... just that this is either confined to the box, with people thinking that it is indeed important to the structural integrity of the aforementioned box, or just simply given to the dustbin to read during moments of boredom, perhaps between emptyings...

Do this at your own peril, you overly cocky things you...

I do believe this is not the case with the original poster though, since this person has focused more upon the little nuisances which affect that person specifically... and as such does not dislay a blatant attempt to ignore, and thus hurt the feelings of, the accompanying manual

I would have to agree with you on that..... Manuals are nothing else but padding for the phones during shipping.

And after all the effort SE goes to to make sure that such manuals are strategically placed on top, underneath the lid so that they are the first thing that one sees upon opening the box...

Perhaps they should conduct a little markter research into this and save paper and printing costs...

Not always though...

E.g. should I save money or spend more on ridiculously overpriced gadgets for the phone I have just purchased... I couldn't find that... assuming that I wasn't missing a few pages

Seriously, the manual is a good place to start, but it always the be all and end all, just usually...

kse i think you should research your spelling - markter - are you sure???

if they just put the manual onto a disk, that you save on your pc, that has a help and advice function, would save trees, and our time trying to bloody find what were looking for.... and for those who havn't got a pc to view the cd, shouldn't buy the fu**ing phone..
