> P900 outgoing mail problem
Bookmark topic
I am setting up a P900 for a work colleague and am having a problem sending outgoing email through an ISP. Receiving is no problem!
I already have a P800 and have an account with the same ISP so know that the settings *should* work.
When sending outgoing mail it takes about 30 seconds then comes back with "Problem sending message: DND report: server failure". Doesn't matter what email address is used (even one of the ISP's own addresses).
I've tried most permutations of the settings, even tried my own P800 account settings and even they didn't work!
Also I tried another P900 and still the same problem!
Hope someone can shed some light on this...
thanks
Helen.

have you checked so the outgoing server (SMTP) is either one open to all traffic, or one hosted by the network provider (if the ISP and the network provider is not the same company)... if the ISP and the network provider are two different companies you can most likely not use the ISP's SMTP server since they only allow those on their network to send outgoing mail through it.

Good point.
My P800 (which works) is on Vodafone, the P900's were on O2. I put the Vodafone SIM into the P900 and it still had the problem. Therefore the problem is not related to the Network Provider.
I have been using my ISP with P800 for a year and never had this problem. Good job I got to test a P900 out before buying one!!
Can't help thinking there must still be some solution to this...
thanks
Helen.
P.S. Just to clarify, I dial up to my ISP on a 0207 number and can get email and internet through it, via GSM not GPRS.

I have a problem sending out email on my p900 through pop3 also. It trys to send then comes up and says connection disconnected. If i try it about 50 times it might work once or twice. I can receive email perfectly but no matter what setting i use for smtp i cant get it to work.

I am using Claranet and Claranet's mail relay, and O2.

Helen.
P.S. There must be ppl out there who it does work for, and maybe have had this problem originally?...

Theres plenty of info on this one!
You must have the correct smtp server for the ISP who provides the mail service.
All other settings are Phone service provider specific.
You must use GPRS unless you have a specific dial up account in which case again you need the mail service settings!
GPRS needs to see the correct Phone service 'gateway' and then the correct smtp server.
What phone service is in use?

Hi,
I eventually sorted the problem. (I was using GSM dialling up to a local 0207 number).
I logged on to the SonyEricsson web site and got them to send an auto-config SMS message to the phone with the email settings.
I also made sure that it was set to 'use SMTP authentication' and 'use this username / password' rather than 'use inbox settings' (even tho they were the same)
And it worked!
Now my company is considering giving P900's to its remote workers who currently use mobile phone/ IPAQ's... RESULT !!
cheers,
Helen.

My P900 does not allow me to sent e-mails either....
POP3 / IMAP works perfect for incoming messages, but the SMTP does strange things...
Our company runs our own e-mail server - and the smtp requires authentication.
I have my P900 set up with the outgoing smtp-authentication flag on, and correct user details are in place.
However - the mailserver denies every attemt of smtp traffic from my phone. Does not match the login/pw correctly.
How does the P900 handle that traffic - does it use some sort of SonyEricssson encryption?
If I fire up my laptop, connect to the internet via the P900, and enter the very same info in Outlook, it works perfect. Have also tried 5 other e-mail programs on my laptop - works perfect with all of them.
So - I doubt there's anything wrong on the e-mail server - and that the problem is on the P900.
Any suggestions anyone?
