I'm a developer with an Orange R&D lab in Boston. We've just released OrangeScribble, our first Symbian UIQ application. It's an Instant Messaging client that transmits freeform handwriting from handset to handset.
More info and the download (a 100k sis file) is at:
http://proto.orange.net/scribble
You'll need a P800 or P900 with GPRS enabled to try it (we've not yet tested it on any other UIQ platforms). You'll also need at least one buddy with a P800 or P900 to talk to.
The app client is free. There's no cost to use the service beyond your usual GPRS cost with whatever network you're on. It uses Jabber to send compressed ink from client to server to client. We've seen heavy users use somewhere in the neighborhood of 2-5 mB/month, but your mileage depends entirely on how much you use it.
I'd love to hear what you think. Comments, questions, complaints, etc. in this forum or to
scribble@orange.us (also posted on howardforums)
Best regards,
Alan Blount

Any news of other further developments coming from Orange?

Unfortunately I can only speak for this project. I think there are a lot of annoucements coming out of 3GSM this week, but you'd have to dig the usual sources.

Cool application. I thought that's where my SE Chatpen was going when I bought one for my P800 last year. It works, but there really hasn't been any services that have wielded its potentials. I'll explore this software a bit further.
@gagetboy-
I attempted to add u to my buddy list (bigfeat). It sais that I must get authorization from you first. However, this software doesn't tell you if the buddy name you enter is even in their database. No verification at all. I'm not sure if I'm correct in assuming this. Maybe it does, but it's just blinded to the end user. For instance, if I mispell a user name and the system doesn't verify the name or pings a response back to me I could be waiting for ages thinking the user is just not responding.
In addition, It would be cool if this program offered a community site where one could search for buddies based on profiles, interest, etc..

Yeah, BigFeat, we need to add a "Pending" list to at least the text view of the buddylist.
Part of the reason for the convoluted subscription process is that Jabber (the underlying transport) requires each user to subscribe to the other's presence and to confirm subscription. That is of course to protect privacy. But agreed, our client needs to do a better job of showing how the process is happening as it moves along.
We like the idea of adding some community features.

If you would like to try scribbling with someone but know no one with a P800/P900, you can try me. Just add "blount" to your buddy list. I'm trying to stay logged in most of the time.

Hi blount!
Well, I have been testing your software with some friends off mine and it is just great.
For now, one thing I think Scribble should have is a option to save a portion off what you have written to some file. Probably a GIF.
That way you could draw whatever you want and later on see it. Some drawing or some technical drawing or even an explanation of how to get to some place... There are a lot of aplications.
Deleting what you have drawn would be very usefull! And how about adding colors? It's easy to ask... lolol
Scribble won't replace software like Messenger, but certainly has some other very usefull advantages.
Best regards.

Are there any other "clients" planned?
Like PocketPC for example

This is fantastic! Basically irradicates the need for a bluetooth pen for those that are lucky enough to be blessed with a P8/900!!!
Simply Superb!
