> P900 sms messages in the backup file
Bookmark topic
Hi guys!I had to sell my first P900 in december,because I had some weird money problem.I made a backup before I sold it,but unfortunetly I had to sell my laptop as well (more problem).Anyway I have the backup file on CD,but the damn thing doesn't want to backup itself.I tried everything and I know how to do it,becouse I have done it before.I don't really care anyway,but I desperatly need my storred sms messages!!!You know some sweet thing from my girl...So,anyone know where can I find them in the backup file?And is it possible to read them ever again?If yes I will put them in to the Jotter.Oh,that was my idea to store them in folders.Make a folder in the Jotter and than paste the messages in to the folder.That's it.So if anybody can help me please reply!Thanks guys

What exactly happens when you try to restore your file?
I know that there are a couple of things which happen; one is that the backup file should be of the same name as your phone's, and the other is to make sure the backup file is actually in the right directory!

Thanks for your reply.Well I don't know what's the problem but the phone can't find any restore file.I don't care anyway,because I have everything on my phone I had before except my messages.

That's the most important thing for me.I can't locate them in any of those files.Heeeelp...

try backup inspector
http://afsoftware.s5.com/bi/index_eng.htm which can view and extract files from backup files

Or just open the backup file with winzip and extract the messages you need

In the backup folder there is a file with an .ecs extension. You can open that file using Winzip just right click and open with winzip. You will be able to see all the files (pictures, ringtones, etc etc) in the backup folder

@Chris
That sounds strange in the backups folder there should be afile with a name like this which has the date of back up in the file name 'My P900 2003-12-12 12.00.15.ecs' . It should ideally be in the hard drive >documents and settings> your username>Application data> Sony ericsson>backups> and in a folder with your IMEI number as the folder name.
Hope you find it
