> P800 user jealous of P900 mp3 ringtones
Bookmark topic
I am a present P800 owner who is utterly jealous of the P900 people being able to use their mp3 as ringtones.
Here's my way out - wav files. The common misconception is that wav files are huge. But when I take any song and convert them to wav at 22,050Hz, mono, 8-bit, I get file sizes like 4-5mb (typical file size as mp3). When played over my P800 as a ringtone, it sounds no differene than that of a mp3!!!
Now I can have any song as my ringtone... wav rocks!!!
p/s I'm not a particular supporter of mp3 anyway... ogg is the prime audio format in my P800 - you store more, you get more...
But I'll stay jealous til I can upgrade to a P900 eventually...

Why don't you get a freeware wav/mp3 editor? You could cut that filesize down a lot...

I use Alive MP3 converter. There is an option there to convert to WAV but not in PCM, rather in GSM 6. The size the I get is very close to original mp3 and on the phone it sounds the same.

I use real audio files, all the quality of mp3, small file size, if you compress .wav files you lose playback quality.

You do realise that since you are using it as a ringtone, you only need the first 30 seconds at most? You don't? Jeez....
Convert the Mp3 to wav, then trim it down to just the first 30 seconds and the file size will be about 1mb...

I tried It I converted an MP3 (1.97MB) to WAV then saved it as 22,050Hz, mono, 8-bit. The Size Of the Wav After That was (2.71MB)
I Used A Program Called GOLDWAVE (www.goldwave.com)
I Used The Old Version Rather Than There Latest (Im UsedTo It) But its a Great Wee Program
For the Old Version Go Here
