> Memory stick Duo and PCMCIA problems
Bookmark topic
I've bought a 3 in 1 PCMCIA card reader for my laptop, with MS, SM and SD/MMC slots. I took out the ms duo, put it in the adapter, put it in the PCMCIA card and stuck it in the laptop. The laptop recognised it ok, and offered me a removable drive. I opened it and it said the card needed formatted, which I knew was wrong as there was a lot of data on there. I tried it on another machine (which I knew worked) and my own machine and all the same. So I formatted and the P900 couldn't see the memory stick, tried again and got the phone working with it (to my relief) I transferred some files to it on the P900, and then tried it in the laptop - same again, did I want to format. So I formatted on the laptop this time, and put a file on it. My PC works with the MS duo but the P900 is screwing up again, it's really, really slow with the memory stick in, and it can't see the memory stick.
So firstly, any suggestions as to what's going wrong?
Secondly, how exactly should an MS duo be formatted, FAT or FAT32, and full or quick format? Any other settings I should be aware of?
And lastly, should an MS Duo with adapter be compatible with any memory stick device, or have I made an incorrect assumption? The device does work with smart media cards and MMCs fine, I don't have any proper memory sticks to test with. These are the specs of it, nothing out of the ordinary:

Mate,
You need to try and reset your P900 to factory spec, restore a backup, and try again.
If the Duo works ok with your PC, it's unlikely to be a problem wth the stick. And if you shouldn't have needed to format it in the first place.
P900 can get screwed by corrupt software, without you even realising it - it's happened to me - it can cause a variety of weird problems (mine went on auto-answer of it's own accord and wouldn't stop!) and only a master reset sorted it.
It's a pain, but it'll be worth it if it fixes it

It's just a normal MS Duo, that's been working fine in the P900 for the last three months, and works fine on my work PC plus desktop PC (with usb card readers) and any of the Vaio laptop memory stick readers I've tried. I don't know what the PCMCIA card reader is doing to the card, but it's clearly something the P900 doesn't like, after many, many formats I managed to get the P900 to work with the card again, the P900 seems fine, it's the card which seems to cause problems. The seller has offered to refund my money -15% restocking fee, plus I have to post it back, and of course he won't refund the slightly over the top 3 pounds postage and packing (not insured or anything) so I'm thinking of just cutting my losses with this one. The difference between this reader and others is that it's going through PCMCIA which seems to be causing the problem, it's a bit more clumsy but I'm thinking of just getting a USB card reader for the laptop, I need something that works.
