Bookmark topic
Hi,
I have been a "silent watcher" on these forums for few months now(from the day i bought p800).
Few weeks ago i had an accident with my old p800 and it was replaced with a new one. Problem is that my 128 MB memory stick(Sony memory stick 128MB magicgate) is detected as write protected by the phone. I can format it in the memorycard reader(connected to pc) and copy files on it, but the phone won't recognize the card(it detects it, but when card is inserted, phone startst to lag and when i try to format it, program says that disk is write protected). My 16 mb memory stick is working allright! Phone firmware version is R2D.

Is it an original Sony Duo card? if so, is it the blue one or the white one? some of the 3rd party ones are not so reliable.. i had a cheapo one and it gave me problems

It's the original Sony Memory Stick Duo 128 MB.(MSH-M128) It has much darker(dark purple) colour than the 16 MB stick and it dosn't feature the writelock switch(that is avaiable on 16 MB stick).

erm... yeah... *looks dazed* yeah... i had this problem earlier. start ur phone without the ms in it and go to control panel. now insert ur stick and select format disk. click yes. it will show that it's formatting for a while then say "this memory stick bla bla bla'' select yes. once again click format then on yes. Wait for it to finish formatting and ja ja binx ur ms's running fine again

yeah, lozishere is pretty much there. i've been having identical problems to this. how did i get round it? well, format the disk in your p900 as normal, take a photo using the memorystick as storage. this will create a proper folder structure. then, SWITCH OFF your phone with the memorystick still in. then remove it to your reader. this should work. let us know how you get on man.

as is said...i would be happy to format the disk in p800, but phone tells me that disk is write protected and won't format it. I can format it in memory card reader, but the phone won't recognize the card...another thing does p800 even support fat 16 bit or does it only support fat 12 bit?

@sirexec
Same thing happened to my white 128 Duo.
My Duo is still in "Read only mode" no matter what I do. And I definitely could not format it using my P900
Th only work-around that I did was to format the duo using my pc reader and copy the file / folder structure (including the hidden files) from a working 128 duo onto the faulty one .
I could now copy songs, movies and other files onto the faulty duo and the phone could read it. However, the phone still sees the faulty duo as "read only" so I can't delete or add any files using the Phone.
At least I can now use the faulty duo on the phone, as long as I don't mess with the recognized file / folder structure.
I hope someone comes up with a better solution so my faulty Duo can start working normally again.
BTW, the duo broke down after I shot some videos / pics using my phone's camera.
