How resistant is the lens of a mobile phone's camera to scratches? (As I know, the lens doesn't have a protective cover) Will the pictures become vague within time?

yeah, sure, but I don't keep the phones long enough to need to worry about the lens deteriorating

I think they are reasonably safe from scratching since they tend to be recessed quite deeply so the only real concern would be dust etc and I read somewhere that they are often coated with some sort of anti static something-or-other which even helps dust not stay there

Before buying my T610 i read some reviews over the internet. In one of them, the writer was very worried about the lack of lens-cover in this model.I have it 6 months now, use it everyday in all kinds of enviroments and never had a single problem. No scratches no dust.EVEN if there"s dust on the objective, u can't see it in the picture. So really, nuthin'2worry about!

Dust and scratches on the lens won't show up in your photos since the lens can't uh.. focus on itself.

Plus the resolution on current phones are way too low to resolve such detail.
