i get rite through to the oint on the update where it turns fone on, then of again, asks do i wana make backup, then tells me i av latest version, which i do, but tends 2 mess about, i click continue with update, then get error message " eror in communication with device" ne ideas pps?

I have the same problem with CDA162003/5.

Done other updates before with no problem.

For those who are having problems, did you guys unbranded your phone from 162004/xx into 162003/xx? Because Sony Ericsson started blocking (Since 3/2/2004) those phones from future online updates unless they go back to branding with "Recovery Mode"

Sony Ericsson's current Online Update program (V1.15) now checks the phone's original CDA# by reading the phone's IMEI# and verifies it with SE database over the internet. If your phone's CDA# doesn't match the IMEI in the SE database, then you're blocked from online update.

To fix this problem you have to run "Recovery Mode," which will then flash your phone back to CDA 162004/xx (Branded) firmware.

I got this error message as well. I connected the cradle to another USB port (I first had it connected to a port on the front side of my PC -- it gave me troubles with aother devices in the past but I'd forgotten about that), installed a USB2.0 driver, and the firmware upgrade worked like a charm afterwards.

So in my case, there really was a communication problem... Hopes this can help someone.

I had this similar problem before. Then I installed the latest version of SE PC Suite which is available from the SE website.
I had no more problem after that.
