My understanding is that it sorts calls in order with the most recent call at the top, right?

This is what i see...

with flip closed -
john doe 10:39pm
john doe 10:50pm

with flip open -
john doe 10:50pm
john doe 10:39pm

How is this possible sorting being wrong with the flip closed???

when the flip is closed, the sorting depends on whether the call is incoming, outgoing or not.
i don't exactly remember the rule (that has been valid for ericsson phones for many years) but i think the rule is:
it seems that the phone prefers to first display the most recent incoming call and then all the rest in absolute dating order.

now, let's say that you recieve a call and then make another, the flip closed list first displays the latest incoming and then the other! even if the other is most recent that the incoming.

on the other hand, with flip open, the sorting is done in terms of absolute dating order (at least in my p800)

that would make sense in my case as most of mine on the P900 are received calls only which is why the lists appears to be the same for me, and indeed I just tested this and what you say is absolutely correct!

I thought the call list rule was the top number on the list was allways the last number dialled from the handset. This way when you want to redial the last number you push "call list" then "ok" to redial. Everything below the top number is date/time organised.

I think that's right. Flip Closed operates permanently in 'Compact Mode' but keeps the most recent dialled number uppermost so you can get to it with two key presses.

Flip Open lets you choose between everything in date order (regardless of it being in or outbound) and the same format as Flip Closed. If you open the flip and then select and deselect Compact Mode a few times, then it becomes apparent.

My P800 has the most recently dialled number on top of the list always. Even if there is an incoming call after the most recently dialled number, it still remains in the 2nd place in the list.... It is the same whether it is f/o or f/c.

Thank you everyone for explaining this...

I just tested the flip closed scenaria - indeed the most recent dialed number is always on top...

. john 8:03am (dialed)
. paul 8:12am (incoming)
. jane 8:05am (incoming)
. jane 8:04am (incoming)
. john 8:01am (dialed)
