For those who are having problems such as "Communication error" or "Service provider not allowed", You guys probably unbranded your phone from 162004/xx into 162003/xx, am I correct? Because Sony Ericsson started blocking (Since 3/2/2004) those phones from future online updates unless they go back to branding with "Recovery Mode"
Sony Ericsson's current Online Update program (V1.15) now checks the phone's original CDA# by reading the phone's IMEI# and verifies it with SE database over the internet. If your phone's CDA# doesn't match the IMEI in the SE database, then you're blocked from online update.
To fix this problem you have to run "Recovery Mode," which will then flash your phone back to CDA 162004/xx (Branded) firmware.

so are the unbranded phones are permanantly stuck with their current firmware or revert 2 the newer version of their original network branded firmware unless we have a manual firmware update at a S.E service center every time? that sucks as when se warrenty runs out, we will have 2 pay each time! will onine update still b free after warrenty ends? if so, most of us will revert 2 their branded firmware and get it for free!

I don't think you have to worry about what happens with updates after the standard SE 15-months warranty runs out. Judging by the P800 support policy, SE will have forgotten about us long before that.
Why don't SE spend as much time getting rid of the bugs, as they do preventing us from using our devices the way we want to?
I hope some other brand soon will challenge the SE supremacy on the smartphone market, because I sure would like to switch...
