Sony Ericsson just sent me a T226 for free, saying it's an upgrade over my T68i, and asking me to mail them my T68i. Is it really an upgrade? When I compare the features on both phones, other than more colors (512 vs 256), and the ability to use polyphonic ringtones and speaker phone, it looks to me like the T226 is a downgrade, not an upgrade. They also say all accessories from the T68 are going to work on the T226, which I find hard to believe as the T226 doesn't seem to have bluetooth which is what my wireless headset is.

Am I wrong on this? Which is the better phone? And if the T68i is better as I think, why are they trying to get me to mail mine in for this T226?

I don't think you're required to mail in the T68. If I were you I'd keep both phones

They are sending you the t226 becuase it has 850 mhz which the T68i lacks, because that's their network frequency (or is going ot be their network frequency)

In terms of the full set of features, yet, T226 is a downgrade. the only thing I can think of off hand that the T226 has that the T68m/i does not have is a better screen and poly sounds. i would keep both phones too!!!!!

Thanks for the info guys. Vlammetje, so is this just an attempt to not have to support another frequency too, or will the T68i stop working at some point (like if they only support 850 Mhz)?

I can't really see them abandoning the 1900 network any time soon as millions of handsets support it and not 850 (=bye bye roaming agreements with vodafone and such ) ) Perhaps in the very very long run they might but I wouldn't worry about it.

I do think they want to promote the use of 850 and if I were you I'd probably want my next handset (in a year or so) to support it... but I wouldn't lose too much sleep over it now
