Hi I have had my p800 for 6 months now, and i just purchased an emachines m6805 and added a bluetooth card....how do i use my p800 to connect my laptop to the internet via gprs? I can use it as a regular modem, but since i have unlimited gprs, i want to use it instead to connect to the internet....is this possible? my provider is T-Mobile and my bluetooth is Ambicom PCMCIA/CF Bluetooth adapter...

...also i don't have a dial up account and so using my p800 as a dial up modem will result to loss of my minutes and additional cost for a dial up internet account...

...thanx

enable bluetooth on both phone and laptop, then go to control panel, then modem and phones, make sure their is a bluetooth modem detected (p900), then go to create a new DIAL UP connection under network connections, then manually enter the name in, which can be anything, use a dial up connection, choose your modem (bluetooth phone), and then as the number, enter...

*99***1#

then uncheck the firewall, then before you dial, leave the username and password blank, it'll connect to the internet via gprs

you have to have it as dialup, as it is using the method of dialup to connect to the net, even though it isn't what you know dial is to be, (the slow 56k crap),

yup, which means you can sit on the train or bus with your laptop, and phone in your pocket, instead of having it on a table 2 feet infront linked via infra red , now you don't need any of those gprs pcmcia cards, you got your phone,

Maybe this wasn't available with the earlier pc suites but the recent versions have a dialup wizard that will automatically setup your phone as modem using ir, bt or cradle... and also create the dialup connection, query the phone for configured internet accounts and allow you select which gprs/gsm account you want to use (it will alter the #99* string depending on the account selected).

I have used the wizard but still cant connect via bluetooth. This is what I get when I try to connect using the P900 as the modem (with dail-up number *99***3#
:

Dail up Network was unable to complete the connection
Error 630
The modem is not responding properly. Please verify that the modem is plugged in to the computer and to the telephone line.
If the problem persists, please select 'Help' button to start the Windows Modem Troubleshooter.

Can anyone help! I am on T-Mobile USA with unlimited 19.99 internet plan.

nope, don't use the dial up wizard that comes with the pc suite,

if you're using bluetooth, just go to "show nearby devices" or something similar, then just create a new dial up networking, just type the number *99***1# in, and it should connect

Made a new connection manually but still the same error with BT attempt to connect.
(Note: I can connect ok thru the cable to the phone modem).

(Oh the #3 is what we connect with in the US (1 think). I tried the #1 and no luck either. Also cant connect with the 1 via cable - must be the #3)

phone tmob usa to get the code, *99*** is the initialization command for gprs, i just used 1#, 1 as the usual default for enable, (0 = disable) (but it could be in the wrong context), and then # to complete the command

Thanks. Will check on that.

Follow up:
Finally got my bt to work!!! No more wires!!!
What I did was:
I unintalled the AmbiCom software from my laptop and re-installed it.
Then I went to My Bluetooth Places
Clicked on the Bluetooth Setup Wizard and followed the instructions.
Gosh after 2 weeks - such a simple solution.
Thanks everyone.
(Oh by the way, on my service provider my dail up number is *99***3#)
