AT&T sent me a free T226 to upgrade my T68, has this happened to anyone else?
I'm not sure if the free upgrade is related to sony/ericsson or something else. (Something else being an irate call to their customer service center last thursday.)
Anyhoo, the box came with a return package to send back my T68.
just curious if this only happened to me.....

This not only happened to you, yours is probably the 4th thread about it.
You're not REQUIRED but only REQUESTED to return the T68. The reason for the free ophone is that AT&T will be using the 850 mhz band more and more and the T68 does not have it.

ahhhhh, thanks Vlammetje
I was wondering why my coverage got better. At my house, my T68i would only have 1-2 bar, with the T226 I'm getting 3-4 bars.
and thanks for the links masseur

I got my new phone yesterday and I promptly took it out of the box and placed it into the mailer to mail back. That "replacement" phone is a joke.
AT&T has a new policy to give you a free phone a year if your plan is $39.95 or over. Ain't that nice of them?
If you look at the specs of the joke replacement phone vs. the T68i you'll be giving up Bluetooth, voice dialing, and more memory. There are a few other things too. So what do you gain? Access to the 850mhz network. Wow, such a deal. Why didn't they give us a compariable phone as a replacement instead of a lower model? It's like having a Mercedes S-class and having Mercedes saying they'll "upgrade" us by giving us a C-class. Uh, thanks, but no thanks.

You know, you didn't have to mail that phone back. You could've sold it or something like that. And you don't know much about the AT&T WS free phone a year, do you? Now look who's the fool.

Seeing that STEALING isn't one of the things that I'm a big fan of I thought that the best thing to do is to send it back. Besides, AT&T is known to charge the customer for phones that aren't returned.
Second, I just received a postcard in the mail from AT&T that basically said "get a free phone every year" and all that was needed was to sign up for 2 years.
