Hi

On P900 how do I stop the back light coming on in my pocket?

With the thing saying that it's locked, if I press either the "OK" or the "Menu" key then the backlight fires up and it says "Press * to confirm".

with thanks

the only way I know of is to manually go to control panel, display, power (3rd tab) and change the light setting to off before you lock the keypad and then do the reverse setting it back to auto when you unlock the kaypad.

Bit of a chore and I haven't yet heard of a tool that will do that for your automatically

edit: I personally think its a bit dangerous having the phone in the pocket like that. so many stories of scratch screens. perhaps a simple case might minimise the pressing of the keys in your pocket?

No, no. I simply have to press * and it's nicely "unlocked". Or even just flip the lid open and I have access to everything.

And to turn the keylock back on, I just close the lid, hit the menu button (top right) and hit 1 to turn on Keylock.

The problem is that with the lid closed, it's all too easy to turn on the backlight simply by hitting OK or Menu even though the "keylock" appears to be on.

And this wastes batteries!!

P.S. Is there some kind of security / phone lock (i.e. with a password on) that I should activate? Maybe this would resolve the wasted batteries problem(??)

P.P.S. Masseur - I noticed this problem as I was trying to got to sleep. The phone was in it's wallet, lying on it's front and the light was blazing away after 10 minutes!

(Incidentally do the "Light (in car)" settings only apply if when you hook the phone up to your car - the help didnt say...)

And what's equally annoying is that the backlight goes off faster than I want it to. I have set the "Power save" (on same page) to Blank and "Active after" to 2 minutes but the backlight seems to only last about (I'm guessing) 30 seconds.

Ah but maybe that's because I have the "light:" on auto. So I'll just tried putting it to "on" instead, and the backlight goes dim (instead of off) after 30 seconds...

But either way the Power Save fails to kick in as requested after 2 minutes. [sigh!]

Doesnt that happen with most phones though?

To be frank, I neither care nor know about what most phones do.
I dont want my batteries chewed up for no reason, thank you...

I think it much more logical to require *two* keys to be hit in sequence before the phone kicks up the screen and starts wasting batteries.

Otherwise simply by putting the phone down, face down, albeit in its case... and the damned light will like I say be on ALL NIGHT it seems!

P.S.

Ah-ha I seem to have cracked it! The powersave seems to have stopped the backlight from *staying* on if you hold down the Menu key.

So maybe the occassional 1 minute lighting up in the pocket/when unattended isnt such a disaster...

But I'd still prefer for it to ONLY light up if I pressed TWO keys!! (in correct sequence).

i do agree with "mixin" though, lots of phones do that. i see your logic but then, coming from another view, some people might not know how to unlock a phone and if the screen won't light up for them to see, they might not figure it out, especially if they are in the dark.

one might say he/she is gotta be stupid not being able to unlock a phone, but they are people out there...
