Hi,
I've been using my P900 for about 5 months now and am very happy with it except the usual misgivings which I won't go into here.

No my topic here is on memory management and in particular the RAM used by the phone for loading programs into memory. I have Handyday2004 installed and use this a lot. This brought to my attention the memory being used and programs open. I constantly have to clear programs to try and keep the memory between 4 and 6Mb which is difficult.

I noticed fist off that applications and phone are constantly open which seem right but that the memory usage for "phone" can go up quite a lot. Usually when I restart the phone its around 850Kb but can go up to 1Mb, does anyone know what is loaded up into memory for this function and how maybe I can streamline it? I had thought that the number of contacts, pictures associated and their size had something to do with it but after changing my settings (resizing the photos) I don't think this is true.

After this I progressed to Sman which is a great piece of kit. Seeing what else is running helps but I wondered if anyone else had some more knowledge of this and how I can streamline it to get the best out of the phone?

What I would like to know from anyone is:
1. What makes up the loaded memory of the phone?
2. What is being loaded by the "Phone" application as it used?
3. What applications can be removed to help the memory management?
4. How do you keep the "messages" down to a minimum?

I have read that some people have 8Mb of RAM available, how can I get this much available?

Thanks for any help.

I don't have answers to all of you questions but these thoughts might help you.

I will suggest the best method to regain memory with out much hassle is to use the 'Flip close flush' feature of SMAN. In this way all teh unwanted applications are closed on closing the flip.

About people having 8MB of RAM on P900, I don't think that is very correct because the maximum I have seen on mine is 7 MB and I don't have any walpapers running. You can check this by restarting the phone.

As said above if you have an animated wallpaper running then it may take quite a bit of memory.

The 6.5 MB average memory is enough to run almost all of the programmes available (Except one underground Map application, if I remember it correctly)

Finally for Q4 you can always close the Messages using 'handyday' so don't have to worry about keeping it ot the minimum.

There are learned people around here who will answer your other questions.
