More and more companies are going to release smartphones with Symbian 6 or 7 in combination with the Nokia Series 60 UI. The market for these phones is growing and it seems like only SE is going to lose out in this segment. Yes, they're dominant in the highest class with their P series and the T610 was crowned as phone of the year, but why do they refuse to release a phone like the Nokia 7650, 3650, 3660, 6600, 7610, the Siemens SX1, the Sendo X, the Samsung D710, the Panasonic X700, etc. For me (and many others who think the P series is ridiculously priced) it would make the perfect SE phone. I really hoped that this E100 standard would be a smartphoneplatform for which we could develop and install new applications, but as far as I can see now, this is not the case.

propably cause they dont want to pay royalties to Nokia.

Personally I dont care for symbian and Nokia series 60 UI - and am quite happy S//E doesnt make alot of phones based on that.

I like the idea of diversity - and would find it enourmesley boring if they were all alike.

You mention yourself alot of other models based on these UI's - the simple answer would be why not just buy one of them - why do you need an S//E if its the UI youre after ?

But Im not into the idea of smartphones at all - allready had a P800 and didnt like it. From my point of view - a phone is a phone - should be small and nice with addequite functions. I dont need it to be some kind of fullblown smallsized laptop.

I use a T610 and an Ipaq instead - this way I only have to bring the function I need.

But each to his own

Why is Nokia so stupid? Keeping in symbian and maybe loosing market share. Look Samsung is going to give all four: Linux, Palmos, Microsoft and Symbian in their phones. This message was posted from a WAP device

UIQ v3 supports both keypad-phones and stylus phones, and will probably be SE's choice in future phones, and a nice choice.

Series 60 doesn't offer anything special anyway (except more apps)

but that means you don't have the same support and that the company doesn't know hich os they preffer.....

to have all four is just stupid in my opinion.....
all four have some stupid mistakes, while s60 phones have perfected in time.....

and that means that the company has to order from different providers and then again it can become real nasty, in my opinion a compyn should choose it's preffered os and stick to it (like hp, sony, nokia, siemens, palm....)

For me it doesn't really matter if the Series 60 UI is used or a self developed one, as long as I'm able to install third party applications (non-Java). Symbian is really becoming a standard in the mobile phones industry, so why is only SE not joining in? Like I said, I really hoped E100 was a new smartphone platform that could win the competition with Series 60, but this is not the case. And yes, this (next to the expensive MS(D)'s and the Q4 release of the S700) is one of the reasons I won't buy a SE phone this year, while I have always had a Ericsson, Sony or SE as my number one phone.

U should know that both Sony-Ericsson and Ericsson have shares in the Symbian company so that's not the point.I mean, they don't equip their phones with symbian cuz platforms are sufficient.I don't care what i use as long as it fits my needs.

I'm not a nokia user so I have to ask this question: What's so great about series 60 anyway?
