i recently lost my T610, and have just bought back a secondhand one.

i requested the seller to help me to get an ORIGINAL blue housing, he did, and it costs me around US$35.

then i brought it to Ericserve (my local Sony Ericsson Customer Service Centre), they told me the housing is fake! Because the side is white in color, and the battery cover does not have the foam (or rubber? the square things that protect battery).

but the secondhand seller claimed that the blue housing is really original, and he said he bought a T610 from UK, the side is white in color as well. As for the battery protector, we have to transfer it from the old original silver housing.

so which is true, which is fake? or both of them are actually original, just that different region got different cover?

PLEASE HELP!

It is orginal if it is made of aluminium.
You don't have to change the middle part

yeah mine looks totally original, it is aluminum, the SE logo and text is exactly the same, but it doesn't have the foam bit, and the centre is white. Though i don't think you are expected to change the centre as there is no real need, as it is hard to damage. The lack of foam is a pain though as the battery rattles, though this can be sorted by putting a small piece of paper in the back, or by glueing the foam from the screen protecter to the back of the foam.

As correctly mentioned, ONLY from an authorized service center your will receive (or have installed) an original T610 facia - All others are NOT 'originals'. And the BIG difference can be seen in the middle part, where on originals it's silver or light silver and on 'replicas' it's white.

On the other hand, such an 'original' facia might be at a price as high as 700 Swedish crowns (75 euros or 92 dollars!!!), including its installation. Buying a 'replica' facia from a smaller mobile shop and having it installed for you, already comes down to 400 crowns. The exact same replica though, can be order through the internet and with some technical abilities of yours and the right screwdriver, the whole cost can be pulled down to 75 Swedish crowns (10 US dollars!!!).

From this point and on, it's up to anybody how 'original' they want to be!

PS. I received my 10 dollar facia from an internet order, and apart from the middle part which is white (while the 'original' is silver), everything else seems to be pretty much the same! (Even that foam bit is there). It seems like there are a few smaller differences from replicas to replicas. The sure thing is that non of the replicas are being sold with a silver middle part.

PS 2. While talking about originals and replicas and their middle parts, a friend of mine received a brand new T610 a week ago as a present (In its box, everything brand new) and I spotted right away its middle part which was less of silver color and more of white!!! What was that about??? Didn't tell him anything though, as I thought I'll let him enjoy it while it's new (You know, a slight thought crossed my mind of someone changing the facia and pushing it forward as new, just to save some bucks!... Ha ha ha... That would be of the hook!...)

yup, i can say it's fake quite safely. I just got my new "OEM" red housing, and right away I can tell it's not real.

Comparing the fake red housing I just got and the original silver i have, these are the differeces:

middle housing doesn't have a silver side as mentioned above.

battery cover:
-the "Sony Ericsson" font is a little bit different (a bit shorter I observes) and the position is a little bit lower. In the real one, you can feel those words by finger as they have a matte surface while you cannot feel anything with the fake. (*Thanks to khaltire from howardforums)
-Also the black plastic has a glossy surfaces while the real one is not

Antenna cover:
-the IRDA opening is a little bit different

Front plate:
-has a very tiny gap at the on/off button opening.

All in all, those differences are very minor and you can only see it with a real one and fake one side by side with very close and careful observation. They have 99.99% match.

K786uk, I've just bought a new housing from firstphoneshop and I can asure you it's not genuine. I thought the same, cheap ones were in no doubt copies and the more expensive ones were genuine. It looks pretty convincing on the site but when I got it the silver paint job is very shoddy, the Sony Ericsson lettering on the battery cover is missing, the SE embossed logo on the antenna cover is just crap, and ther's large gaps when fitted. I'm taking it back to the shop today to demand my money back. £21.95, rip off! Went to the computer fayre on Tuesday and bought a new red metallic case, which looks superb, for a fiver. Bargin!
Contacted my local SE service centre (cellestica) and they won't sell to the public and only fit a new case if you send the phone into them to have the fimware flashed.
For those of you who have bought genuine cases, how much are they and where can I get one?

THX
