I've post this before but had no replies, so I'll try my luck again...
Hello,
Can anyone help please?
WinXP, Lotus 5.08.
When syncing the P900, the software (PC suite 2.3.1) spends the first 10 minutes analysing the calender. After that all apps sync ok (in about 2 minutes).
I'm sure that it is not meant to analyses for ten minutes first.
Have tried...
Updating the software from SE site.
Changing the 'Summertime' settings in the p900 and in notes.
Turning on filter to 1 day forward and 1 day back only.
Other than that, seems to sync ok.

PS. Upgrading to notes6 not an option.

I'm using Notes 6.5.1 and the sync process takes about the same amount of time you describe. A long time to initialize, then longer to analyze. The actual transfer of data goes pretty quickly.
Also, I have run the sync software using Lotus Organizer, and it worked pretty much in the same manner as with Notes.
I think you will probably find that it's just the way the software works with large files.
