oooh yeah we need a mac forum. i see mac related topics springing up all over the place.
@elemental
I use mac the ripper rather than handbrake, ive been using both and i think ripper just has the edge.
Not sure about the whole convertor though, im looking for one to use with smartmovie. anything on macupdate.com?

ooooh 100th post! yay!
theres a great website called macupdate.com. Do a search for mactheripper, all one word and it should come up. Its not really technically better (its not as customisable) so its not as good as handbrake for making movies for the p8/p900. But it is simpler to use and i think its slightly faster although dont quote me on that
while your at macupdate.com get a small program called MUMenu. It sits in the bar at the top of the screen and when your connected to the net it tells you when theres a new file to download at macupdate, like handbrake or mactheripper. I download at least eight programs a day this way. its great!

Quicktime 6.0 Pro does converting to MP4 pretty well. Runs well in my P800.

QT is NOT expensive and it does excellent mp4 & 3pg files! If you want free that's fine, but QT puts out great small video without futzing around..

@elemental
no probs mate!

Glad to help.
@lozishere
Try this app called ffmpegX (the latest version is 0.0.9b), the newest version's only just been released, ain't tried it yet but im downloading it from macupdate.com. (Where else?

) It seems to convert everything to everything else. Its a heck of a download tho, 5.4 megs plus another 9 megs for some third party media convertors. Ill post an update when i finally download it as to what it can do. Worth a shot though :
"It can decode MPEG1, MPEG2, MPEG4 (aka DIVX4/5), VOB, AVI MS-MPEG4 V3 (aka DIVX 3), WAV, Real Audio, H263(+) (aka RealVideo 1.0), PGM, YUV, PPM, AC3, PCM8/16 bits, mulaw/Alaw, SUN AU format, MPEG audio layer 2, MPEG audio layer 3, MJPEG and even more formats. This GUI provides quick encoding to DivX, MPG1, MP2, MP3 & AC3. You can i.e. convert DVD video to DivX, DivX to VCD or XVCD, and DVD to VCD or XVCD."
edit: ok, just tried it and i converted several different files. its pretty damn good! well worth the download and its very customisable, its exactly what ive been looking for for smartmovie. Its only a demo though, but it's best enjoyed whilst eating a BOX of a nice breakfast SERIAL.
btw: we are really starting to need a mac/se forum. im gonna add a line to my signature about this and i suggest everone that agrees with this idea to add a signature bit in protest! or at least until laffen gives us a forum...cough..

Reckon this is a good idea guys?
