Before someone tells me to use the search button, i have and the answers don't solve the problem.

I have a MSI 6967 class 1 bluetooth dongle and a p900 with the latest version of PC suite, organiser firmware R3A06 (the latest for my orange branded phone) CDA 162004/3, the latest WIDCOMM MSI drivers and windows XP. I have successfully paired the two devices together and each device is detected by the other. When i try to set up a serial port connection either by double clicking in My Bluetooth Places or in right clicking the taskbar icon it asks for conformation that i want to set up a connection on both the PC and the p900 which i say yes to. When i click yes there i get a pop up message saying the connection was successful and there is a notification sound played but immediately i get a box in the centre of my screen saying "The Bluetooth Serial Port Connection failed: The remote device closed the connection" and the connection stops (even though there is a connection displayed on the P900 it doesnt work as opera still asks for WAP dial up). It also causes windows explorer to restart.

Having read some of the other suggestions i went to control panel and phone monitor options where i enabled all the COM Channels and reserved 5 and 6. I have also double clicked the mROuter task bar icon and all it has is a IR connection which is not connection (i have removed the syncstation).

I have also uninstalled the MSI software, reinstalled it and tried to use the original drivers which don't even detect the phone (which is set as visible to other devices) and dont ask for a security code. After this i have again upgraded the WIDCOMM drivers which do ask for the security code and detect the phone but i get the serial port connection problem.

Can someone tell me how to set up the serial port please!!!

I know that this does not answer your question...but according to the manual when a bluetooth connection is made between the P900 and the BT, then it will first indicate a connection and then it will shut the connection down, but then it will start another BT connection...the manual says that this is the way it should behave....don't ask me why, but it does. When I try to connect through BT then it will do as the manul say, and I will keep the connection. however a collegue of me have the same problem as you,and we have triede everything...but nothing helps....his P900 does the same as yours...I have told him to go to the SE center and ask them for advice....

Sorry that I am not able to help you, but I hope the info given will give a little hope...

....was just thinking....how did you make a COM port for the P900 in the bluetooth SW?
I know that it can be rather difficult, I had problems with this issue as well

Ok. All I can offer is how I set up my BT. This works everytime. This of course is assuming you have drivers that came with the dongle.

1. unplug anything Bluetooth in your PC
2. Uninstall any software you have on your PC that directly communicates with your BT dongle.
3. If Any ask to restart, say no.
4. download this http://xbox-scene.serveftp.org/TDK1.3.2.19.zip to your Desktop.
5. Shutdown your PC
6. Verify that your BT dongle is still not plugged in
7. Start up your PC
8. Install the software you D/Led in step 4
9. make sure to read through the instuctions as you install. If it asks you to restart say NO
10. When all is finished SHUTDOWN your PC.
11. While your PC is off plug in your Dongle
12. Start up.
13. When the PC recognizes the dongle you must point it to the drivers that came with your Dongle (CD or whatnot)
14. Pair up your phone and PC.
See if you can send a small .jpg file to your phone then try to send it back. (if this works then you are set up ok hardware wise)
15. My PC has 2 serial ports (physical) so the client apps tab in advanced settings uses serial port 3
16. For an example in FMA I right click on the bluetooth symbol on the systray -> quick connect -> Bluetooth serial port -> Other (this will locate your phone if bluetooth is on. (might need to be in discover mode)
17. once it finds your phone, select it and connect.

I know it is a lot but it might be worth a try

@8legs
i the MSI/WIDCOMM software automatically established two COM ports for the serial port COM 5 for the PC and COM 6 for the P900 I found this out by right clicking the Serial Port icon in my bluetooth places and then clicking on properties. I then enabled the COM ports by going to control panel and then doubling clicking phone monitor, here i clicked the COM ports tab and enabled all the COM ports.

@ M3_DeL

i'll try your option as soon as i can but iv already spent so long messing around with bluetooth that im going to have a little break to reduce the stress im feeling.

thanks for both of your suggestions and i'll try them out

@M3_DeL

i have tried sending a picture between the phone and the computer both ways using the present software and it works.

New problem my syncstation now connects to my phone but when i double click my p900 it says not connected, this probably started when i installed my bluetooth dongle.

@smellywelly - i know this is probably not the most scientific explanation here but wen i have that issue with my syncstation , i reboot both pc AND phone and it resolves, rebooting phone alone sometimes. Hope thats all it is, i hope u get this thing workin dude, it would be tragic if it doesnt
