Help!
My T68 has started to act up.
Frequently, it will not pick up incoming calls, and when I try to make outgoing calls, it just drops them. When it does this, sometimes the main screen banner says "No Access" or "Searching", even though I am in a good signal area late at night when there's not much network traffic. I've tried putting a friend's SIM card in it and have the same problem. My SIM card will work just fine in the same area and at the same time in a different phone, so I think it's the phone.
I have VoiceStream service in the Pacific Northwest in the USA. I've tried entering in the MNC codes in the Preferred network, and this sometimes works for a little while, but it inevitably fails and reverts back to sporadic reliability.
I'm hoping there is an easy fix for this, as I'm daunted by the prospect of sending the handset to europe for service.
Any tips are appreciated!
-Michael

Which software version are you running with?
Some people said R1C might solve the problem.

I get similar problems with a T39.
Very annoying, I know I have to get a software upgrade, but Ericsson hasn't seen fit to have a service centre anywhere near central london. Why, I don't know, there are only 8 million people here...

I have version R1B. My only option right now in updating the firmware is to send the phone to a guy named Robb in pennsylvania, USA. Ericsson does not officially support the phone in the states.
Has anyone here sent their phone to Robb for a firmware update?

GMG I used to have this problem until i reset my phone, i.e. in the connect option go todata comm, preferred service and select GSM only. For some reason VS GPRS does not work real well with the T68. You can still connect using GPRS but cannot remain connected at all times
hope this helps, it helped me

Harleydog,
I'll try this, I may have already tried it. I've tried a lot of things. I don't think I had been leaving myself connected to GPRS all the time.
I also took out all of the MNC's except 31020 and set the search mode to manual in the network settings. I hope this works because we don't really have a lot of support in the US.
Incidentally, Harley, have you had trouble connecting to circuit switched data? I get an error code "PT62- Your service agreement does not allow calling the number dialed." I've contacted VoiceStream about this and they said they're "working on it" -since 12/18!

My problems decreased when I set the WAP timeout to 30s instead of the original 150s. I also removed the automatic check of e-mails.
They seem to have upgraded the Nokia basestations where I live (which my operator Telia promised to do before the new year, when I called them), so I haven't got any problems anymore...

GMG; not sure what circut switches data, is, but I had the same problem you are describing until ericsson UK told me to switch to GSM only, also if you use gprs, once you log off, make sure you go and search for a new network at which time you will log back onto GSM. My search mode is automatic.
GPRS with VS sucks, it works very sporadically

Not only does VoiceStream GPRS coverage suck, but their non-GPRS internet has proven unreliable, too.
I've found a way to circumvent them entirely. You've got to
1. Get a dialup ISP account. I can use nocharge.com's dialup number which is local to my area. It's free and anonymous which is perfect for me since I already have a broadband internet connection. Put the dialup number and login info into a GSM data account. If you already have a dialup connection, you may put your number, login, and password for that account in.
2. Set the WAP gateway to one of the Public WAP gateways like zaramond.com, the IP address for this public gateway is 194.100.38.114. Leave the username and password blank if you use this particular public WAP gateway
Then, you're just making a regular call when you access the mobile internet, and bypass all of the VoiceStream pitfalls.
In defense of VoiceStream, they do have good voice coverage in my area and do offer the best rates (3000 anytime min's for $50/mo) and have friendly (although somewhat un-informed) customer service reps.
