> New Orange P900-ROM?
Bookmark topic
Hi guys,
Tomorrow I'm getting a new P900 on the UK orange network. Are there any advantages or disadvantages to flashing to the generic SE ROM?

advantage: You'll be able to stay up to date a lot quicker as you wont have to wait till firmware is approved by orange
disadvantage: orange usually don't approve firmware for a reason...

I know that one- carphonewarejouse are SE agents, you don't have to have purchased from them to use the service.

uhh, if it's orange branded, if you get it to the generic firmware from carphonewarehouse or something like that, then if you use the homer updater, it'll go back to orange's firmware

The Orange update firmware problem is a complete farce! From trying the update service and getting a "locked to your provider so bog off" message, I now get as far as "checking the SE update service" and that's where it stays.
Orange have told me the following: i) use the update service ii) contact an SE Service Centre iii) use Celestica iv) ring a firm called TRS in Glasgow, the nearest thing to an Orange Repair service.
I complained bitterly to my local Orange shop on Saturday about their total lack of knowledge about this and why should I fork out a lot of money for a high end phone and Orange then decide whether I should have upgrades or not. The assistants in the shop agreed but were only paying lip service to an irate customer. I even e-mailed Orange Cust Support who professed to know nothing about the subject!
I have just come over to Orange from O2 but should have stayed where I was! What a complete farce!!

An update. I have rang a firm recommended by Orange called TRS on 01418121111 who have said they will upgrade the software under warranty. They will send out a pre addressed jiffy bag and it should take about 4-5 working days to do it.
What they can't tell me is what the latest firmware version is for Orange so I may end up sending it up to them for nothing! Oh well!

I don't know what the difference is but myself and others get as far as "SE is checking the update status" and that's it. It is better than the previous message " this firmware is locked out by your provider".
I have put my phone in to my local SE Service Centre yesterday who said they will try and update it for me but as I am the first Orange phone they have done, it's a bit of "let's see what happens".
Will come back and report progress (if any).
